Journal the_mad_poster's Journal: *yawn* 10

Okay, so, in case you haven't noticed, I'm a little bored with the whole Slashdot thing.

I've really just run out of things to say. I'm quite disgusted with politics and if I never vote again after this election, it will be too soon. I don't really have anything else to get into an apoplectic fit about. I've covered everything from bad driving to smoking to corporate society. There's just nothing left to go apeshit about.

I could post long, drawn out, thoughtful posts and comments. But, let's face it, I just don't take Slashdot seriously enough to do it. My idea of revising things here has never extended beyond proofreading for glaring spelling and grammar mistakes. I normally don't even bother to spell check things.

I've been harrassing some people relentlessly. Notable targets include HBI, bryanthompson, and bmetzler. With nothing better to do, I figured I would at least entertain myself at the expense of some idealogical imps.

As for the proper of Slashdot, why bother? The stories are full of errors, misleading, and often, just the mindless rhetoric of an uninformed drone. All too frequently they're based on the latest sociocommunist bullshit. Trying to get a word in edgewise to the contrary is like trying to wedge your foot into a crack in the sidewalk. You get moderated to hell and back and then back down again.

And then, there's the trolling. What fun is it to a troll a forum where people will bite on a post that references suicide divers for Al Quaeda? I mean, seriously. Trolling people this blithely ignorant is like using a nuke to uproot a tree stump.

I used the frame dragging article as an opportunity to post relevant stuff early and dragged my karma back up yet again. I think I'll leave it at that and take a sabbatical... perhaps retirement. I've done a fair bit of damage here, and I really don't think it's been noticed because there's just too much damage already in the system. I think I'll get back to focusing on my computing. Rebuild the network, harden the firewall, work on securing the filesystem and such. Go back to my coding more regularly...

It's been fun, but it's not anymore...

  • Your stuff is good even when I don't agree with you. I know I'd read it. Besides you can just ban the morons and trolls if you have your own place.

I will admit that I'll miss having you around regardless to whack the drunks and tourists upside the head. You've performed a public service out here in Slashdot journal land.
    • I thought this -was- his blog? :)

And I agree with Trolling4Dollars - you really ought to submit it to a publisher. Maybe you could release it under a CC license and put it up somewhere.

And you could get Cory Doctrow to cover it on BoingBoing, and am sure people will take notice.

Eitherway, I'm going to miss you mate. FWIW, you rock. Hope to catch you online sometime.

  • I think I'll leave it at that and take a sabbatical.

I don't believe you will lose things to go apeshit over, this world is wacked and people ARE dumb, simple fact. Ranting takes its toll, take a break as you said...and go from there.

I suspect we'll see you back, recharged and ready to tear some new ones.

    • There's just nothing left to go apeshit about.

Well, let's see if we can't help out here.

      1. Parents are too fucking lazy to toilet-train their 5-year-old. If the kid is old enough to use "pull-ups", and can feel shame wearing diapers, what sort of parent lets them continue pissing themselves? And what sort of society do we have when diapers for 5-year-olds are mainstream market?
      2. Airlines SHOULD go bankrupt. They're fuel-guzzling polluters, and most business travel isn't needed (we saw that post-9/11). Wasn

I don't know who this thompson guy is, but I don't think HBI and "Brent" belong in the same category.

HBI I am at least sure is a real person, whereas "Brent" has yet to prove that he is nothing more than a clumsy Troll account.
  • This place has gotten dull lately.

However, I figure there's about a 60% chance Shrubya will "win" the election, and given a second term, this administration will have no trouble sending all right thinking persons into spittle flinging fits of apoplectic (or even epileptic) rage as they yank the the cultural e-brake and swing this country so hard to the right that our collective sunglasses slide across the national dashboard and go flying out the driver's side window. So until then, I bid you adieu (or some
    • I'm figuring there is about a 60% chance Kerry will win. In which case it will be the not-so-right thinking persons having fits of apoplectic rage.

I love the smell of Republican fear in the morning ... it smells like victory.
  • ...to an online publication somewhere. They are typically written in a much better style and have more interesting content than what "pros" write. Seriously. Even if you don't care, just give it a try a few times. It would be great to see you get published somewhere regardless of what you think of your own writing. We like it very much!
  • I like reading your shit... Gonna miss ya.

Now Arhidol and I won't have anything to talk about. Sorry, thats aboot.
