Submission + - EU parliament group opposes long copyrights (falkvinge.net)

the_arrow writes: It seems there are some politicians who "get it". At least it seems that way after reading an entry in Rick Falkvinges (leading Swedish Pirate Party member) blog. To be more specific the ones from the green group in the European parliament who now have adopted a position saying in part:

the copyright monopoly does not extend to what an ordinary person can do with ordinary equipment in their home and spare time.

The group also states in their new policy that:

Net neutrality must be guaranteed.

The actual policy-paper can be found here (PDF warning.)

From the article: "Edwyn Collins has been barred from streaming his own song through MySpace. Management for the former Orange Juice frontman have been unable to convince the website that they own the rights to A Girl Like You, despite the fact that they, er, do." Also: "MySpace are not equipped to deal with the notion that anyone other than a major [label] can claim a copyright, complained Grace Maxwell, Collins's wife and manager."
