Walmart has is almost right with Walmart+, you can scan all your groceries while you shop then just scan a QR code on the way out to pay. This is the way it should be, however they charge for this feature on Walmart+.

An anonymous reader writes: The European Union believes that Apple should be investigated for the way that it advertises warranties on their products. EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding wrote to the member countries which is 27 to ask them to check whether Apple retailers failed to let buyers know about the right to a minimum 2-year warranty for products such as the iPhone and iPad under EU law.

hawkinspeter writes: Just one day after Chief Cathy Lanier made it illegal for MPD cops to take recording equipment, a 26-year-old local man had his phone taken as he was trying to record a violent arrest. They eventually gave back his phone, but without the memory card which also contained photos of his daughter along with the record of the alleged police brutality.

tekgoblin writes: "Today the Chinese court has stated Apple, Inc. has agreed to pay a local Chinese company $60 Million dollars to settle their infamous iPad name dispute.

In 2006 Apple purchased the Taiwanese rights to the name “iPad” from the company Proview Electronics. In China however, the trademarked name was still owned by Proview Technologies, a Shenzhen based subsidiary of Proview Electronics. Since 2011, Proview Technologies has battled Apple in the Xicheng district court and in 2012 the Santa Clara Superior Court. Both cases are still ongoing."

tekgoblin writes: "The founders of The Pirate Bay have been hit with a bunch of punishments and other measures to prevent them from continuing. However Fredrik Neij was just fined by the Stockholm District court another 500,000 Swedish kronor's or ($70,690) USD. Fredrik Neij and Gorrfrid Scatholm both had been banned from operating the site but Neij had been recently found still involved with the site. Neij already owes around 10.6 million."

tekgoblin writes: "Well this is pretty awesome, Valve has made an entrance into the education sector. They plan to release a new version of Steam for education uses in schools.

Valve will call this service Steam for Schools, an education version of the Steam client that allows administrators to limit what its users can access. The idea of Steam for Schools is to use the platform as a teaching aid. Valve has already put together a number of educational lesson plans for using Portal 2 and its level editor to teach math and physics."

Comcast has recently announced that they will not be counting content streamed via their Comcast Xfinity App on the Xbox 360 against their bandwidth caps. Comcast claims that since the data is only traversing their internal Comcast network that it will not count towards your 250 GB limit a month."

An anonymous reader writes: Altinn.no is a web service run by the Norwegian government, on which citizens can find, fill out and deliver forms electronically. Every year Norwegian citizens can also log in to check their tax results.
This year as every year, the site was unable to cope with the traffic generated from everyone wanting to check their taxes at the same time. New this year however was that once people were finally able to log in, a significant amount of people were loggen in as someone else.
Users then had access to all financial data of this unfortunate person over two years back in time, in addition to the financial information of his wife and the company he worked for. Altinn shut down some 15 minutes later, and has been down since.

tekgoblin writes: "This is an interesting move by Google but not completely off the rocker for them. Last year they blocked search results from the co.cc domain because they believed they polluted the search results.
Google plans to penalize overly optimized sites because they want to level the playing field for other websites who do not concentrate on such efforts. Basically there are sites out there that completely focus their efforts on SEO and not content and those results would rank higher than sites that don’t focus on SEO."

tekgoblin writes: "Cryptic Studios, the creator of Star Trek Online MMO announced that they are switching to a Free to Play model. Free subscribers to the game will be able to play but will not get the same benefits as paying subscribers still get. Free accounts will be Silver while paid accounts will be called Gold. Silver accounts will be able to pay for features that Gold members will already get as part of their paid subscription. These features include but not limited to respecs and extra character slots."
