What happens when mid-level employees are needed, and there are none in the pipeline because AI took their jobs? AI depends on good data for training. What happens when there is no good data and AI starts to hallucinate?
We would do more to improve health with a single-payer healthcare system that eliminated out-of-pocket expenses. Even if the Apple watch identified a problem, some people would not be be able to afford treatment under the current U.S. healthcare system.
""I asked Siri last night to set a reminder for 3:50, so naturally she set it for 10:00." Well, if you were setting the alarm for 3:50 AM, and it changed it to 10:00 AM, I find that quite intelligent.
We want AI to act more like humans, and this model did it. It knew it was being tested and cheated to get more time. So how come this isn't a breakthrough? (Don't answer, my question is rhetorical.)
I want to emphasize that this is done without the doctors' knowledge. The Medicare Advantage insurers decide what to submit to Medicare. The doctors often do not know what the companies have submitted for reimbursement, and even if the doctors do know, their is nothing they can do about it.
Medicare Advantage insurers have been doing this for years. It is known as upcoding. They list all medical conditions that patients have or had in the past whether doctors or treating them or not. MA companies get paid extra for every condition that a patient has, so they list everything they can to maximize profit. I am glad to see that more media outlets are covering this.
I hope not. Anyone who seriously studies health care knows that the U.S. does not have the best health care system in the world. We have the worst health care system of any industrialized nation based on overall health outcomes.
This is has been known for years among researchers who study healthcare. I am thrilled that media outlets are finally reporting on this. This problem will persist as long as we allow for-profit organizations in healthcare. We need to change to a system that puts the emphasis on patient care instead of profit. Moving to a single-payer (Medicare for All) healthcare system would allow us to place the emphasis on patient care and provide many other advantages.
I remember reading years ago that wellness programs have no benefit. Companies would do better to drop the wellness programs and give their employees raises.
