Comment Re:How many slots? (Score 2) 40

Low profile is an industry standard term that has been used for decades to describe the height of cards sticking out of the motherboard. Slots describe the width of the card. All of these numbers are rounded but a low profile pci-express card is less than 80mm tall, compared to a standard height profile of 120mm. A standard slot is about 20mm wide and hasn't changed since the early 1980s. So your video card with its 2.5 slot cooler would be about 50mm wide.
The low-profile RTX 4060 card in the article should fit into a desktop case that has standard, low-profile brackets for pci-express cards assuming that its 182mm length isn't too long to fit in the case.

Comment Small Planes? (Score 1) 59

I would assume that the airlines making these empty flights are not using their Airbus or Boeing planes to fill their slots. Brussels Airlines' smallest plane in service is an Airbus A319, which has a fuel consumption of just over 2 tons per hour.
If the airlines just had to use their take-off/landing slots they'd likely be using much smaller aircraft since they're already planning for the flight to be empty. Fuel consumption for a small plane like a Cessna 172 is measured in gallons or liters per hour, rather than tons. It would make sense to just have their pilots take out a Cessna or Piper or similar craft just to fill their runway slots and keep the pilots current in their flight hours rather than waste thousands of dollars/euros fuel for every flight and add unnecessary maintenance costs to their revenue generating airframes.
For only a few hundred thousand dollars/euros the airlines could buy small aircraft and even paint them in their normal liveries.

Comment Is Less Flaring Good or Bad? (Score 1) 32

The article says that there are reductions in flaring, but it doesn't say why for all cases. It says the US is flaring less because oil wells are being upgraded to better capture the natural gas. And Nigeria is flaring less just because they're not pumping as much oil. It doesn't specify if other countries are pumping less, or capturing more or if they're just letting the gas leak into the atmosphere.
You only have 3 real choices with the gas from an oil well:
Let it leak out into the air, which from a pollution standpoint is the worst choice.
Flaring, just burning the gas on site, is much better regarding air pollution than letting it all vent.
Capturing the gas, probably the best option since you now have natural gas to sell.

Many countries limit the work week for employed work to something well below those 55 hours, and that's not to protect employers, it's to protect employees. It's quite an achievment for someone to anger employers and unions and likely also a few coworkers in one and the same act. Not to speak of their own health.

This employee is likely in the US where very few jobs have legal limits on how many hours an adult is allowed to sell to an employer. Since this person has held both jobs since March it's unlikely that they have angered either employer at this point.
It's likely that this person currently has no life. Many places still have strict lockdowns right now, we don't know where this person lives. They at least have work to stay busy.
We have no idea what their long-term goals are. Maybe they're buying thousands of dollars in booze every week. Maybe all of the extra money is being saved and invested so they can retire earlier. Maybe they were up to their eyeballs in debt and are getting it all paid off. Maybe they're donating a ton of money to organizations they care about. It's not really anyone's business what someone else does with their own money.

Responsible adults should have 3-6 months of income saved up for emergencies, which would eliminate most or all of financial issues people might be facing today due to the outbreak.

The problem is that many places are going to be shut down for more than 3 months. There's even debate on what will be allowed to open by September, which will be 6 months after all of the shutdowns started. So 3-6 months of savings will not be enough in this case which is why many people are beginning to panic if they're not allowed to work and earn income.

You just have to write and sell an instructional book titled "How to Wear a Shirt That Says: "I caught COVID-19 and all got was this lousy T-shirt'" and include in the listing that a free shirt will be thrown in with the book.

It would cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace a truckload of hardware to upgrade to Windows 7 (no clue about Win10), with no measurable productivity gains.

We recently retired a dual Pentium 3 machine running Windows 2000 that controlled a high wattage laser assembly. It was replaced with a Windows 2003 server running a Core2Duo processor.

We also have both a G4 and G5 Mac that each run a specific application that we use. Upgrading to newer versions of the software to run on newer computers would cost thousands of dollars without providing any new functionality or benefit.

The difference is that with the bot I have to pick what I want in the app, go to the designated location, and then wait for the bot to show up with my order.
