An issue with this is if say a drive-by shooting happens on Friday night and they have potential Flock footage to identify the vehicle and catch the shooters. Can they get legit judge approval in five minutes, or do they need to wait until Monday to get the judge's okay just to find it in a ditch after car thieves did their shooting and ditched it?

Many of the abuses are individual officers trying to find info on significant others or stalking. What about a system where an officer's request for Flock info requires two levels higher of approval? i.e. officer requests Flock query, his sergeant and the sergeant's superior both need to approve it, with an automatic review of each request by whatever entity would satisfy the locality? That puts at least three cops on the hook for consequences for BS requests. Would this knock out at least 95% of abuses?

Instead of Congress trying to define guardrails for technology few of them understand, consider making AI companies more exposed to civil lawsuits for damages (and attempts to damage) caused by breakouts. Perhaps add some federal criminal sanctions and penalties too.

After 2028 rolls around, used PS4/PS5 physical disc games, that I can confirm will work locally on an offline PS5 (or haven't had an online kill-switch of some kind reported yet) will just have to do for my PS needs. Plenty of great games to last me however long I am still gaming. And yes I already buy Steam games so I admit a degree of hypocrisy, but it's the principle of Sony making this change, and the fact that they've already demonstrated removing digital game and movie content without compensation.

I got lifetime when Google dropped their Google Play Music service. I used Play Music to have my entire music collection clouded, plus manage playlists and other stuff that I really relied on it for the car, walking to work, etc. When Google gimped that with the YouTube Music transition, I needed to replace that functionality, and Plex plus my NAS plus services they included with Plex Pass worked well.

As for the " restored music and photo library support in mobile apps" efforts to be funded by the price hike, we didn't ask for those to be removed in the first place. I don't use Plex for photos, but I had use cases for music in the main Plex app and not solely in the music-only PlexAmp app. We begged them to roll that back but they didn't, interesting that they have now reversed that decision.

In case something happens with Plex like if they remove too much functionality or somehow renege on lifetime Plex Pass, I now run Jellyfin in parallel.

WiFi-only connectivity doesn't count because it's the same rechargeable 5% brick (I'm excluding standalone camera functions, for now, with 5%) without cloud services.

Bezos is half-right, both local resources and cloud being more in-demand are true. People will rely on cloud services but also rely on every-increasingly-expensive hardware that is needed to access those cloud services.

Local hardware resources will go up. Cloud usage will go up. Standalone usability of local hardware resources will go down.
