Just from that chart I linked, Carter lost it, 47% to Ford's 52% while winning the presidency.

The last time a Democratic candidate won the majority of the white vote was in Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, though I don't know what the break down was. President Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968 as well as the Voting Rights Act.

While in the Senate, Johnson helped pass the Eisenhower's Civil Rights Act of 1960 established federal inspections and penalties for voter registration, precursor to LBJ's Voting Rights Act.

In the last 30 years, blacks have voted in the high 80th to low 90th percentile for the Democrats. With Obama outperforming Gore in that demographic by 5%.

In the same time period Obama has also outperformed previous Democrats for the white vote, in fact, Obama is tied for 2nd with Clinton behind Jimmy Carter in white vote percentage.

Implying all blacks voted along racial lines is bullshit, when in reality the racial line fell their way. It's akin to saying whites only voted for white presidents 43 out of 44 times, but whatever, keep your racist agenda up. The fortunate side effect of Obama drawing out all the racists, is at least they're out of the closet and can be summarily ridiculed.

Compared to Gore (because he was the last democrat to win the popular vote) in 2000, Obama won 5% more blacks, and 5% more hispanics, 8% more asians, and 1% more whites. Tell me again who's voting along the race line?

In 2000, Gore had 42% to Bush's 56% of white voters (and if you recall, Gore won the popular vote).
In 1996, Clinton won with 42% to Dole's 46% of the white vote.
In 1992, Clinton won with 39% to Bush's 40% (and Perot's 20%) of the white vote.

What I'm saying here is that the media isn't reporting something that isn't newsworthy. The Democrats have lost the white vote since at least 1972.

Throughout the day the battle in the SlashArena had been fierce - many had fallen before him, including some of his beloved brothers in arms: Cluster Beowulf, the great Russian InSoviet, 123Profit!, and yes, even his beloved brother CrysisRunSlow. One by one he had seen them beaten to death for the mere amusement of the crowd. It didn't even seem like they enjoyed the spectacle, but were duly observing the match like some kind of gruesome ritual. There was no honor here! Only death, and pain. Is this what they wanted to see? Did this actually amuse them? VistaRunsSlow could not see how. Already today he had fought 385 battles, and not one ModTrophy to call his own. It was like he didn't exist - his life had little purpose than to fill the arena with mindless content.

No matter - the time was before him. He slowly rose to his feet, to the quiet murmor of the crowd. PhasmatisApparatus approached him, shield in hand, grinning from ear to ear. There was no hint of subtleness in his eyes, no mirth, no telling glance that someone of nobleness approached him. VistaRunsSlow could only pray for an end to the merciless beating - a quick death, that was the best this day could afford him. Yet still, if he could, he would fight on. This day he would live proud - this day a joke would not die in vain!

Feed Sexual Photographs: Surprise! Men Look At Faces, Women Focus On Sexual Acts (sciencedaily.com)

Researchers analyzing the viewing patterns of men and women looking at sexual photographs were surprised to find that men are more likely than women to first look at a woman's face before other parts of the body, and women focused longer on photographs of men performing sexual acts with women than did the males. These types of results could play a key role in helping researchers to understand human sexual desires and its ultimate effect on public health.

Vending Machine For Books Coming Next Year 214

An anonymous reader writes "CNN writes about a $50,000 machine that can print books on demand. It can print up to 550 pages and put a binding on the book in seven minutes. It will be debuting in a select number of U.S. libraries in 2007. The machine is the 'output' end of a service called On Demand Books, which is also just debuting. From the article: 'Some 2.5 million books are now available - about one million in English and no longer under copyright protection. On Demand accesses the volumes through Google and the Open Content Alliance, among other sources. [Co-founder Dane] Neller predicts that within about five years On Demand Books will be able to reproduce every volume ever printed.'"
