Anybody, regardless of income or background, can have an AI write a great application essay in seconds. Why require them if most students won’t write them?

Most of what I see on Facebook now is just bots posting stuff and engaging in conversation so that they look like real accounts when used in an astroturf campaign. Earlier today I commented on a post by a musician I follow, who responded asking me to DM her—obviously her account has been hacked and is controlled by a bot. Another person tried getting me into a conversation, that person was obviously a bot. There are tons of accounts posting photos, those seem to be bots running on a schedule. Lots of videos are just bots scraping videos from other places and posting them to Facebook; the videos often end early because the bot screwed up and didn’t get the whole thing. Most of my friends and family got sick of the bots and stopped using Facebook. Groups are slowly becoming less active as users get tired of all the bots on Facebook and stop posting. At some point Marketplace postings will be most of the content posted by actual humans.

MacOS is absolutely not tailored to running one full screen program. Itâ(TM)s tailored for designers, developers, and video editors who bounce back and forth through multiple applications all day long. Thatâ(TM)s why it has Mission Control for switching between software and desktops. Itâ(TM)s common for graphic designers to have Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, a music player, and a browser open all the time. People who just want to run one piece of full screen software are either gamers running expensive PCs or office drones who spend their entire day in Word or Excel.

Big tech companies are the ones that need all these electricians. Big tech companies are also some of the richest, most profitable, highest market cap companies in the world. How about instead of leeching off of taxpayers they be the ones to come up with a training strategy and pay for it?

The USA will keep defunding public schools and steering kids to parochial schools where they’ll learn to solve problems with the help of Jesus. Why is the Vision Pro project lead being put in charge? The Vision Pro flopped. Because it’s just a bad knockoff of the Meta Quest that most people can’t afford. John Giannandrea should have been fired months ago. Does Tim Cook even know what Apple is selling anymore?

Super Mario 64 was the first third person 3D game with controls and a camera that actually worked well. It was also the first game to play well with an analog control stick. There were earlier first person 3D games on the Playstation, but the controls were terrible and camera behavior could obscure the player, which made most of those games awful. Mario 64 taught game developers how 3D should work and it changed first person 3D games from technology demos to fun games. It also prepared developers for Sony’s Dual Shock analog controller.

It’s sad to see what’s happened to Intel. I know they were shitty monopolistic bastards in the past, but they still made great chips.

Look, I know this awful job market sucks. It’s being made worse by one big tech company after another laying people off. But don’t worry. Trump and Elon are going to save our economy by allowing tens of thousands more skilled foreigners to come work in our country on H-1B visas! Once hundreds of thousands of Americans have been replaced by Indians our economy will boom and we’ll all have great jobs again!

I don’t play games on a computer. I use my computer for work, and I’m a designer working entirely with 2D static graphics, so pretty much any laptop CPU on the market has more horsepower than I need. I’m doing fine with my M1 Mac. I do need 32 gigs of RAM to get through the day (because I’m lazy and don’t ever close anything) but that will last me for years until Adobe finally needs even more RAM just to keep Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop all running at once.

Elon Musk is the biggest donor to the Republican Party. He also owns an AI company. Heâ(TM)s best buddies with the President and the GOP congresscritters defer to him. There will be a law passed allowing AI companies to do whatever they want with copyrighted works. Theyâ(TM)ll tell us that itâ(TM)s to keep China from gaining AI supremacy blah blah national security blah blah and people will lap it up.

Windows Phone failing had nothing to do with Microsoft being distracted. It failed because consumers had spent years dealing with Microsoftâ(TM)s buggy, unstable, insecure, and overpriced products. Nobody wanted to bring another fucking Windows device into their life. None of the shortcomings of iOS and Android could compare to the shit we all went through with generation after generation of Windows.
