Journal subgeek's Journal: snow white + kung fu? what? 13

so has disney finally gone completely mad? it looks like that might just be the case.

checking out what was new at shacknews brought me to this article on yahoo. yes, disney is going to have yuen wo ping direct a live action story based on snow white - dwarves + shao lin monks set in china.

it sounded so wierd that i thought i had to make a journal entry. i thought that in addition to the Wrongs Of Disney people might have other ideas for reinterpretations of disney's "classics." so post away, or just continue your day and ponder concept.

  • Did'ja see the commercial for the new game Disney's putting out for the PS2? It looks like some sort of strange mix between Final FantasyX and about 6 different Disney flicks. Just in the TV spot, there were heros and villians from Beauty and the Beast, Aladin, the Little Mermaid, and a few others I don't quite remember. At least the graphics looked decent, even if I couldn't figure out what the game was about.

I wish I could remember the name of the game... I'll have to go look it up or something.

    Word.

    • at first i thought i'd not yet seen that gem, but now that i think about it i remember seeing the last half of a commercial for something like that. i had put it out of my mind because i prefered not to think about it. it sounded like more from the Wrongs of Disney catagory, so i tried to unlearn what i had seen.

i hope life is good for you out there in dc.
      • Found it. It's called Kingdom Hearts [squaresoft.com]. I was talking to Erika about it, acutally, and she mentioned that she'd read an article in Entertainment Weekly about this game. The article apparently spoke rather favorably about the game, saying that the concept was well done, and the game play pretty good. About the only thing the article didn't care for was some camera work.
    • i'm curious about their target audience for this game. the name disney just screams lame fun luvin' game for kiddies. on the other hand, it is being created by squaresoft, who is known for their super-complex multiple storyline games.

i must admit that after watching the trailer, i was interested in the final product. the graphics look very nice and the possibility of playing with tinkerbell, i mean... uh... having tink in my party is just rockin. and let's not forget ariel. she alone is worth the price of admission.... oops, i did it again. i'm a bad man... a very bad man.

  • *sigh* Must they remake *every* movie? FOOLS! Why can't they leave everything alone? I don't mind them borrowing ideas from other movies, but must they use the same names? I liked the newest "Planet of the Apes" but they should have given it a different name. It was a different story, so it made no sense for it have the same name. This "Snow White" movie could have easily been called "Ming Ping Wong and the 7 Monks". What's the difference? People went to see the other movies and they didn't have a name from the past. *SHEESH!!*

    *SIGH* I'm just ranting. *SIGH*
    • dollar signs in their eyes. if they use the same name, they hope to attract a wider audience than would see a bizarre kung-fu fairy tale. a lot more people have seen snow white than have seen crouching tiger hidden dragon.

thank you for your rant. i didn't have the words for it myself, so i opened a journal entry hoping others would help me.

i must secretly admit that i am fascinated by tron 2.0, both the movie and the game. but i think that is nostalgia of my youth. which is the problem. that is how disney draws people in. they remake movies you liked as a kid. (shakes fist).

i am stopping now so i don't get too upset.
