I do not miss open floor plan right now. I mean as a social being, I miss chatting about tv shows, or sitting next to an awesome classic car randomly in the middle for my tech office... But, I don't miss trying to work, with other people withing eyeshot.

Meetings are an absolute waste of time. Talent will evolve, it always does. I've developed some cool stuff during the pandemic. Now, if I could stop being put on demos, which suck remote, that would be great.

I am the same. I do my most creative work on walks, in the shower, or with complete privacy. I am a social person, and I find the office a distraction. I do miss it though, but not because it promotes better work in any way.

I refuse to constantly fix other companies ridiculous decisions. IE is dead, I'm over garbage like this.

I loved both AP c++ classes I took in high school. Also basic and pascal. I programmed as my summer job for two years before college. All of this was elective though. Of course it should be taught, just don't think anyone can do it.

Talent is talent. Elite programmers adapt effortlessly. The problem is, there is no teaching the things that make great programmers program. It's no differant than professional sports. I have worked with so many people who chose programming as a career path (not out of life long passion), and it's so obvious to me that they just don't have the natural talent to succeed.

True story. Me, on Friday night, getting a call, "We need you to update production server keys. A developer hardcoded a key on github. Not your product, just need to rotate all keys immediately." Face palm.

As a longtime slashdot reader (and occasional commentor), I have noticed the bizarre politicization of comment threads. I find it strange and awkward. I'm one of the tagline nerds and a professional developer, I come here for the tech news, which used to be the heartbeat of the tech world. At this point, it seams like a comment free-for-all echo chamber. I lot of AC right wing talking points, and I say that unbiased, I'm here for the technical discourse not politics. Do I think it's paid? No, probably not, because it seams like most of these threads just canablize themselves into nonsense. I wouldn't be surprised if slashdot has become a bot testing ground though. I'm really curious.

I've worked / programmed probably more hours than pre-pandemic, so it's really just the same old blur minus commute and non-household social interaction. With that being said, I think I'm starting to go crazy.
