iPods and Pacemakers Don't Mix 152

fermion writes "The Register reports a study that indicates that iPods and pacemakers do not get along. While there do not appear to be any long term effects, iPods disrupt the operation of the pacemaker. It is noted that such effects have not previously been observed as iPods do seem to be popular with the pacemaker-wearing population."

Submission + - University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt Returns

mresolver writes: As reported in previous years, the world's largest scavenger hunt at the University of Chicago has returned. The event is best known for the working breeder reactor students built for the 1999 hunt. This year, some of the 330 list items (PDF) include 3-D (and 4-D) Twister, a hand-built Theremin, a recreation of the Moon landing, the world's largest Newton's Cradle, and hyperbolic crocheting.

Submission + - U.S. Soliders Hate New High-Tech Gear

mattnyc99 writes: Land Warrior, the Army's wireless equipment package featuring helmet cams, GPS, laser rangefinders and a host of other state-of-the-art electronics, is finally ready for deployment on a global battlefield network in Iraq after 15 years of R&D at the Pentagon. But in a report for Popular Mechanics, Noah Shachtman not only tries on the new digital armor—he talks to troops who don't like it at all. As if that wasn't disheartening enough for the future of tech at war, the real Land Warrior system doesn't even match up to its copycat gear in Ghost Recon 2.

Online Video Suddenly Gets Brainy 79

David Kesmodel writes "Several online-video efforts are under way that offer a more cerebral alternative to the typical fare seen on the Web, the Wall Street Journal reports. The ambitious Fora.tv, for example, intends to establish relations with all of the lecture series from the nation's scores of think tanks, civic groups, bookstores and the like, and then put tapes of their speeches and panel discussions online in an easily searchable fashion."

The board games they're offering may actually persuade me to pick up a 360 someday... I own and play all these board games, but it's tough to find the time/players the older I get.

Online play would mean I could play whenever I want.

One thing I'm wondering though is will they put in the random endings for when you reach the middle of the board in Talisman?

After surviving the wandering dragons, ghouls, giants, trolls and a devil... after surviving your friends many assassination attempts and finishing the quest for the crazy wizard to get the Talisman so you could survive the Inner Layers and then you climb your way to the Crown of Commands room... you flip the random card and....
you get sucked into the Horrible Black Void.

Then you endure the endless mocking of your friends.

I hope they keep this in the game... i need to take this out on random people over the internets.
