Submission + - Slackware, Oldest Actively Maintained Linux Distro, Releases Slackware 15.0

sombragris writes: Slackware, the oldest actively maintained Linux distributon, released version 15.0 yesterday after a long release cycle which comes all the way back from 2016, where the last version (14.2) was released. As the release notes said, the whole spirit of this release is: "Keep it familiar, but make it modern".

Among the news, this release offers kernel 5.15.19, PAM, PipeWire and PulseAudio, and Wayland and X11 graphical systems, Rust and Python 3. As graphical environments, both Xfce 4.16 and the latest Plasma 5 (Plasma 5.23.5, Frameworks 5.90, KDE apps 21.12 running under Qt 5.15.3) are available, with Cinnamon and Mate also available from third parties. The main compilers are gcc-11.2 and llvm 13.0. The default browser is Firefox 91.5esr, with Chromium available as a third-party repository. And... no systemd at all.

Slackware can be downloaded from a variety of mirrors, with a list available at http://mirrors.slacware.com./ BitTorrent dowloads are going to be available too.

I've used Slackware for 20 years and always impressed me with its stabilitty and speed. I encourage everyone interested to try it.

Spot on.

And the prevailing attitude in the last couple of contracts I've had was that everything just works out of the box and requires no engineering or real lab environment. Also an unwillingness to change a deadline because of some promise they made higher up the chain without clearing it with someone technical first.

The image that comes to mind is the Calvin sticker you often see on trucks where he's pissing on the competition, but in this case it's their customers that are getting pissed on.

It hasn't just been the former Sun customers, but their DB customers as well. I've heard many a plan to migrate away from Oracle completely. From what I've seen they aren't salvaging much of what was really good from Sun either. So long to the free sunsolve and the system handbook as we knew ye...

Comment The Dude? (Score 1) 412

I felt like I was watching a movie about "The Dude" rather than a sequel to TRON.

I also echo the sentiments of some other posters that felt that michael bay may have directed the movie. There really wasn't any depth to the story and that was very disappointing. With TRON there seemed to be a consistency to the digital world that I just didn't feel was there in Legacy.

I wasn't completely disappointed...but I left the theatre feeling only somewhat entertained and lacking any real after taste for the film.

Even then you wanted to max out your fps at 35 because it did make a difference in deathmatches.

I know it helped alot when I got my P90 and was able to max out the fps.

The one thing I loved about the original DOOM games was the speed. It ruined me for a lot of other games.
