I don't know how much this would really help american jobs lost during Covid. Most H1Bs are used for software development and testing jobs which can be easily done remotely. Even my client who always supported in office working is now happy to see that WFH is doing very well. So I would think that the tech sector especially big companies which employs the most of H1B workers are the least affected by Covid recession. Even whatever job is lost in tech sector obviously you cannot replace them from other sectors.

My client has already stopped hiring any new resources be it American or foreign with Covid due to fear of recession. They are just re-distributing the work to existing resources and giving them more pressure. Now if an H1B person loses his visa what do you think is going to happen? The person most probably is working for an Indian/US tech firm which has operations in India will go back to India and resume his work in the same project.. that is all. Any onsite co-ordination will be distributed to existing people. Not sure how this will exactly help the millions of job lost during Covid situation in US.

Remember these are tech companies not manufacturing companies. This bill will just push companies like Uber, etc to solve self driving problem ASAP. In fact any bill that gives more precedence to employees than employers greed will push the companies to invest more and more in AI so that they can get rid of those employees as soon as possible.

I support worker rights before corporate greed with all my heart, just stating that this is a different world now and there could be a future downside of that. So apart from this bill Govt's around the world also have to come together to discuss about AI evolution and how to prepare the society for its impact in future.

Comment Re:Ban CO2 being added to soda pop... (Score 1) 278

I agree Soda pops should be banned or reduced dramatically as they are not really useful for the health.

I think its about giving priority to those areas that can help reduce CO2 emissions faster

First priority is energy consumption to stop burning fossil fuels from ICE as they cause most CO2 emissions and are growing at alarming rate
Next priority is energy production to use renewable source to produce energy which also cause a lot of CO2 emissions

Then comes CO2 in soda cans since its small percentage and it really comes as a by product of Fossil fuel burning
