Journal sillypixie's Journal: San Diego, and Stupid Storage People 4
Business politics. What a joke. I'm trying to deploy a provisioning tool, which among other things creates a windows user's home directory, with the correct share settings & permissions. Sadly, half of the servers in production are NetApp appliances. No NetApp in the dev environment. And the people in charge of the NetApp find out that we're about to "test" in production and have a hairy conniption fit about it.
IT'S A FREAKING FILE SERVER! ALL I'M DOING IS CREATING A FOLDER!!!
If I can break any file server by simply creating, filling with a test file, and deleting folders, then something is terribly wrong, for crying out loud. Maybe instead they should be checking to see how many existing user folders inherit "Full Control" for Everyone... that would yield much more useful results.
But these guys "own" the NetApps. And they obviously crave drama in their lives. In most companies, you would put the stupid things in and forget about them. Not here. I'm all for change management, but puhlease.
On a different note...
I was crossing the street downtown yesterday, and I looked down to see a single beautiful, perfectly formed butterfly wing lying on the pavement. Brought out the melancholy in me.
Are any of you in the San Diego area? If so, would you be interested in consuming a beer with a pixie on a saturday afternoon?
