Submission + - Faulty Jeep Gear Shifter design may have killed Anton Yelchin

ripvlan writes: Actor Anton Yelchin (of Star Trek fame) was recently killed when his vehicle crushed him. It has recently emerged that his vehicle was a Jeep. As discussed on Slashdot previously (https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftech.slashdot.org%2Fstory%2F16%2F02%2F09%2F2033249%2Fjeepchryslers-new-gearshift-appears-to-be-causing-accidents) consumers are having a hard time knowning if the vehicle is in "Park." A new class action lawsuit is gaining momentum claiming that the faulty Gear Shift design in Fiat/Jeep/Chrysler was the cause of his death. Also Maserati has a similar system and can join the class action. CNN reports more details http://money.cnn.com/2016/06/2...

Submission + - US Navy $700 million mine-drone won't hunt (cnn.com)

ripvlan writes: CNN reports that a mine hunting system created by Lockheed Martin doesn't perform as expected.

From the article: "A mine-detection system the U.S. Navy invested nearly $700 million and 16 years in developing can't complete its most basic functions" and that tested showed "no statistical evidence that the system is demonstrating improved reliability, and instead indicates that reliability plateaued nearly a decade ago"
