Comment PC at home, Consoles for fighting game events (Score 1) 86

For fighting game players, it's typically PC for home (online) play for the flexibility of input device, better online, mod support etc. but it's gonna be a console (Playstation) for tournaments as they are easiest to source and set up. So what ends up happening is players with custom controllers show up with adapters to tournaments. As for me, I've amassed all the current-gen gaming platforms. Lately though outside of fighting games that I play with other people in events anyway, I find myself reaching for Taiko no Tatsujin on the Switch, playing with the drum controllers, as stress relief. Sometimes we just need that fun kind of game.

You have to realize that fighting game communities are home to some of the oldest players. One of the reasons is that fighting games are some of the longest running game franchises. Old games that have active communities around them have players that have been playing for decades. Some players have been grinding Marvel Vs Capcom 2 since release and are still playing today through Fightcade. Virtua Fighter 5 tournaments in Japan are peppered with wrinkly salarymen who have been playing since the 90's.
In summary, you're fucking dumbass.

Comment Linux Gaming still has a long way to go (Score 1) 83

Linux has come a real long way on this front, but still has a long way to go and does not really have anything to offer to someone who only wants to play games on a PC. Uncertainty over games working properly on linux, and also that I have only enough money for a 1080p144hz monitor, led my decision to build only up to an R5 3600/1660 Super last year (fortunately I built at a time where prices weren't bonkers yet). Thankfully I only really play fighting games (Soulcalibur 6, Tekken 7, Guilty Gear Strive, ones that do work on Proton) and Final Fantasy 14, the former not really benefiting from higher resolutions and only really needs to run at a consistent 60fps and the latter working just fine off of a Lutris script (FF14 isn't available in my country's Steam store page).

Mysteriously though, I seem to have more problems with Steam games that have native Linux ports now than I do with games that are decently rated (Gold and above) in ProtonDB, with the biggest one being the first Witcher game, which just straight up crashes for me in an early part of the game, so I just stopped playing it.

The one game I have managed to get to work over the Epic Game Store in Linux is Samurai Shodown, but it doesn't have online functionality as it depends on EGS integration, and the Epic Game Store already only barely works as it is. Unfortunate how some games are locked behind this store.

You may have seen an image of bat soup in the news - it's from Palau, in the Phillipines, a fair distance away, and from another country.

How the hell do you get this mixed up in this day and age where a search bar isn't very far away, no matter what computing device you're using? Filipino here, Palau definitely isn't in the Philippines.
