Journal queenofthe1ring's Journal: um, bye? 23

haven't used this in a while, and don't really intend to anymore. took me forever to find the stupid "write in journal" button. decided I should get the friends-list and what not squared away so if I come back I won't be confused as all heck. "see you in another life brother."

    • omg, John, make me cry why don't ya? that poem was very sweet, thank you. I always enjoyed your poetry posts. I hope you are (and will be) well. I don't like goodbye so I'll say see you later instead. (I do hope to return eventually, but for the foreseeable future, I will be away, sorting things out more privately.)
  • Keep well. I will turn out the lights, when you've all gone.

  • It's sad Slashdot kinda kicked the journalling community in the balls. Most of the ones I remember are still very active over on Multiply, though.

What do you mean? There were some in the community who were very dissatisfied with Slashdot, but I don't recall anything that would really qualify as an event of that nature.

Gross feature and UI decay, more than anything. When I come back to write a journal once every six months or so, things always seem to be more broken then the last time. If one doesn't know the URLs like op=list, using Slashdot journals for much gets more and more difficult.

A side-related issue is the lack of explicit support for things that are de facto standard in most other places, like the ability to crosspost. I'd be happy to have my journals show up on /., if there was anything resembling intended sup

    • Thanks!

If they had any sort of journal security settings, I most likely would not be going. (heck, would anyone have left if they had journal security?) I need to be in a more private place for the foreseeable future.

The journal always seemed like kind of an afterthought here.

Multiply [multiply.com] has much better privacy tools than Slashdot and I am sure the former-Slashdot crowd over there would welcome you with open arms. ;^)

      • I don't want to sound like I'm marketing, but Multiply has fairly fine-grained access controls, including some degree-of-separation stuff.

That said, I generally don't put anything online I don't want to risk becoming public knowledge, so access controls are usually a non-question.

Another vote for Multiply. I have found it to be pretty good, and really enjoy the company there.

        • you guys and your peer pressure. ;-P

            Heh.

I didn't hang out on Multiply at first. But once I did move over, I found it to be fine. In fact, I bought a premium membership, because I want them to succeed, and not have the pressure to sell out the way Facebook did.

  • Take care. Hope you are doing well in everything :-)
  • I remember you having an account there way back, but I think I culled it from my watch list a while back.

I'm on Multiply, although mostly lurking. Facebook is my primary place online these days. Tried Twitter, was too much of a distraction.

Take care, and see you on the flipside!

    • wow, I can't even remember the last time I was on dA. I lurked for a really long time but I don't think I've signed-in in months. I should probably go close it down until I actually feel like using it again.

there are so many different sites now. I miss the old slashdot. maybe I'll catch ya someplace else. take care to you too.
