I got the photos back on monday. Parentals brought them up when they visited. I guess I like the idea of the photos better than the photos themselves. She did give us a CD with all the photos on it, but they are of such poor quality as to be nearly useless.
So today I started going through all the photos one by one, and scanning the ones that I think are the best. And then editting them myself. Photographer didn't do anything to prevent glare from glasses from appearing in the photos, so I am having to remove it. It is hard to reconstruct eyeballs.
I think I am doing a pretty good job, considering I have never done anything this complicated (or important) before. When I finish editting them I'll send them to my mom to see if they pass the test.
I would just scan the negatives, which would probably be better for high quality images, but my scanner has a max resolution of 600 dpi, so the pictures would be tiny.
I am slowly collecting photos that other people took at the wedding. If you were to pick a random photo by someone else, and compare it to a random photo the photographer took, the someone else photo would probably be better. *sigh*
The outdoor photography is nice though.
That's frustrating. (Score:2)
Of course you realize that we're all now all the more interested in seeing your photos, right? ;-)

Sorry, we don't live in the Portland area. I don't even actually know the photographer's full name actually (I know, that sounds really bad...) it may have been on her business card but I don't remember seeing it on there. I wish we would have been able to afford the other photographer, who's work I really adored. Ordering reprints would have broke us though. With the photographer we ended up using we get copyrights and negatives and everything, which I guess was the real selling point.
Maybe once I

I guess how I feel about the photos will depend on how the prints come back. The proofs she made from the film did not scan in well. Actually the proofs themselves are not all that stellar. She has poor light management. Perhaps having her shoot digital would have been better. Maybe we wouldn't have ended up with someone elses negatives (and be hoping that no one else got any of ours).
I could try to do more work on the scans if they print badly, but I'm not really sure what else I could do.

I'm not much sure how we could get our money back. I don't think there ever was an actual contract, per se. She ended up not to be a pro photographer, but some one who does it on the side. We didn't know that until the week before, after we had already paid in full. I'm not sure what we could do about it at this point.

looking forward to seeing the pictures though.

There wasn't even actually a real contract, to my knowledge. It was not so much an actual business as this girl who just does weddings on the side. But I don't think we realized that until we were shooting the engagement photos the week before the wedding and she had to get off her other job to do it.
At that point things just kind of disintegrated, but we had already paid. Oh well.
