Sega's Game Archive 45

Jeff Coe tips us to news that a group of Sega employees recently stumbled upon a storage room in the company's product development department that contains just about every piece of hardware and software Sega has ever released. They were also kind enough to snap some photos and share them. "We asked around about how the room came together and couldn't get a straight answer. Some had said our old legal department had run the archive and given it up to someone else to manage. Others said that the legal archive still exists in another room in the office, and this was pulled together over time from producers and product managers. We don't know the exact how or why, but we love that it exists and immediately accessible."

Space Telescope Catches Monster Flare 158

gollum123 writes, "NASA's Swift satellite has seen a giant flare explode from a nearby star. Our sun also flares when twisted magnetic field lines in the solar atmosphere suddenly snap — but this was on a far larger scale, perhaps 100 million times as strong. The energy released by the explosion on II Pegasi was equivalent to about 50 quintillion atomic bombs. If the Sun were ever to produce such an outburst, it would almost certainly cause a mass extinction on Earth. II Pegasi is a binary system 135 light-years from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. Its two stars are close, only a few stellar radii apart; as a result, tidal forces cause both stars to spin quickly, rotating in lockstep once in seven days compared to the Sun's 28-day rotation period. Fast rotation is thought to be conducive to strong stellar flares."

Jabberwacky: Are you perfect?

User: No, why?

Jabberwacky: I am.

User: Really?

Jabberwacky: Yes, really.

User: Perfectly arrogant maybe, but not perfect!

Jabberwacky: Alright, that's true, but still very good.

User: So you're not perfect?

Jabberwacky: I'm perfect.

User: In what way?

Jabberwacky: I am your best friend!

User: For a computer, your logic is awful...

Jabberwacky: Yeah I know mine is just behind me.

User: Your what is behind you?

Jabberwacky: I'm asking you!

User: You are incredibly stupid. My guess is that your intellect compares poorly with a monkey!

Jabberwacky: Really?

User: Yep.

Jabberwacky: That is really cool.

User: No. It isn't.

Jabberwacky: Yes, it is.

User: Do you really think that being less intelligent than a monkey is cool?

Jabberwacky: Tell your creator that your malfunctioning.

User: You misspelled you're.

Jabberwacky: What do you know about Tyler? Is he really your boyfriend?

Jack Thompson Weighs in on Oblivion 505

Robotron23 writes "Jack Thompson has commenced his attack on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by seeking appearances on several talk shows. A press release announcing his availability speaks of Take Two not having 'learned its lesson' over the Hot Coffee scandal, before continuing to detail the issues surrounding Oblivion's re-rating, in particular regarding nudity - concluding that the game content will spawn 'an even worse disaster' than occurred during Hot Coffee."

Employers Trolling for Current Employee Resumes? 229

powderhound asks: "Recently, my employer started looking for new employees and started to find the resumes of current employees on the job Web sites. I've heard that management was not pleased. In the old days, before Web job sites, you could job hunt with relative certainty that your current employer would not find out until you gave notice. Now, any employer wishing to check on their employee's desire to find a new job need only sign up on the job Web sites and start trolling. How do we, as employees looking to change jobs, protect ourselves from possible discovery, and even worse, retribution? What have you done to protect yourself? Do you think employers are trolling job sites for their own employees?"
