Journal pudge's Journal: Birthday Song 13

So I started writing this song today. Here's a really cheap demo, and the lyrics so far.

i was born in september 64
we started off each school year with my name up on the door
sang happy birthday to me
ate cake and drank some juice
i've looked forward to the 'leventh
every year since my youth

osama bin laden, you ruined my birthday
i don't get no presents, just looks of dismay
lots of people died, i'm not just thinking of myself
but couldn't you have chosen the 10th or the 12th?

You think the song goes too far? If you say yes, I am gonna cry.

[Note: the song is not autobiographical.]

[Note: someone asked me what the deeper meaning of this satire is. I don't know, but I am not sure that it matters. I find that, generally speaking, irreverence is its own reward.]

  • My wife was very concerned that our child would be born on 9/11 as the due date was the 12th. It didn't happen though. It wouldn't have been a big deal to me. Who cares nowadays if you are born on Pearl Harbor Day?
  • Aren't you supposed to get Zakk Wylde on the guitar? And I think Master Shake has prior art.

(If you don't get this, then chances are you don't watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Adult Swim...)

I'm gonna go ahead and give this one of the rare times I use the acronym lol - because I did. No offense, but not something I would usually do to one of your posts. :)

Music makes it alot easier to say something of that nature, even though your just blaming OBL for ruining your birthday -- who wouldnt?
  • It will all be forgotten at some point. No one dreads that their birthday is Pearl Harbor Day anymore. My daughter's birthday is the same as Hitler's. Of course, now Columbine has made it even more infamouse, but in 5-10 years, I expect no one to think twice about that date. The same will eventually happen for 9/11, but probably it will take 30-50 years.
    • Well, that's sorta beside the point of the song, whatever it is. But I am not sure it is true anyway. We don't remember most famous events by the day they happened: 9/11 is fairly unique in that regard.
      • Exactly. Plus, the media aspect was a little different in the past. Now, televisions continue to remind people of "September 11th" and reference it every other day, even years later. 9/11 also marked a different sort of attack. Instead of being a largely military attack, September 11th marked an idealogical attack on every American. I am not saying one is more powerful than another, but in context of society today versus yesterday, I say that September 11th is far more likely to be remembered for th

some niece or nephew of mine is a 09/11 baby. I shun it.

but chances are I'd have shunned it anyway.

    I shun.
  • I have 4 birthdays on that day.. one a previous roommate, one my sister in law, and two distant relatives. Still got a giggle outta it, though :)
