I left intel 10 years ago when the "penny pinching, bureaucracy and a long sequence of shifting management," started showing up heavily... in a 6 week period, i had 5 new bosses... basically they each lasted only a week before being reassigned... the last boss, refused to approve an expense report when i used parking at the airport instead of using remote parking for a two day trip. i put in my notice the same day...

prpplague writes: Despite Linus Torvald's recent claims ARM won’t win in the server space, there are very specific use cases where ARM is making advances into the datacenter. One of those is for use with software defined storage with open source projects like CEPH (https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fceph.com%2F). In a recent The Register article, Softiron's CTO states about their ARM based CEPH appliances that "It's a totally shitty computer, but what we are trying to do here is storage, and not compute, so when you look at the IO, when you look at the buffering, when you look at the data paths, there's amazing performance – we can approach something like a quarter of a petabyte, at 200Gbps wireline throughput." and " claimed that, on average, SoftIron servers run 25C cooler than a comparable system powered by Xeons." So... ARM in datacenter might be saying "I’m not quite dead yet!"

__aajbyc7391 writes: Intel and CircuitCo have revealed a smaller, faster, 2nd-gen MinnowBoard open SBC based on an Atom E3800 SoC and supported by both Android 4.4 and various standard Linux OSes. The MinnowBoard Max, which will ship in Q3 starting at $99, blows past the original MinnowBoard (Slashdot video) on price, performance, and energy consumption. The 3.9 x 2.9-inch Max's $99 starting price includes a 64-bit 1.46GHz Intel Atom E3815 (Bay Trail-T) CPU, 1GB RAM and 8GB SPI flash, and coastline ports for MicroSD, Micro-HDMI, GbE, dual USB, and SATA. Unlike the original MinnowBoard, the Max provides two expansion connectors: a low-speed header, with signals similar to the Arduino's Shield connector; and a high-speed connector, which can support mSATA and mini-PCIe sockets on expansion modules, among other interfaces. Although the Max's design supports CPUs up to Intel's quad-core 1.91GHz (10W TDP) E3845, only two choices shown initially at MinnowBoard.org, with the higher-end $129 $129 model stepping up to a 1.33GHz dual-core E3825 plus 2GB RAM..

Now in its seventh decade and in its fifth home, the computer with its flashing lights and clattering printers and readers provides an awe-inspiring display for visiting school groups and the general public keen to learn about our rich computer heritage."

jones_supa writes: "The recent anti-bullying survey conducted by ABA brings up some interesting findings. According to it, more than 90% of the 1,000 11-16 year-olds surveyed said they had been bullied or seen someone bullied for being too intelligent or talented. Almost half of children and young people (49.5%) have played down a talent for fear of being bullied, rising to 53% among girls. One in 10 (12%) said they had played down their ability in science and almost one in five girls (18.8%) and more than one in 10 boys (11.4%) are deliberately underachieving in maths – to evade bullying. Worryingly, this means our children and young people are shying away from academic achievement for fear of victimisation."

the link to the school has the quoted relevant sections of the law that are required, just figured you would read the relevant sections. the references to "registration" paperwork include the passport as it is a necessary part of the paperwork. i'll admit the pdf is vague about the drivers license, i'll locate the exact phrasing of the law for you, which does state that a state issue ID is required...
