Ok troubleshooter, how do you fix a population that elects someone that sexually assaults people. Or says black people eat dogs? Have our public schools let us down that much? If Trump came to your town and sexually assaulted your mom, I am guessing you would not vote for him. But you will when it's anyone else's mom?

Comment Safer, stress free ride (Score 1) 171

I had the opportunity to ride in a Waymo the last time I was in San Francisco. My co-workers told me that it's way less stressful than taking a Lyft/Uber and they were right. These cars accelerate more slowly and generally drive more slowly. They're not trying to rush you to pick up their next fare like a taxi. I would prefer this every time over the Uber driver that went 90 mph from the airport.

Comment Re:Stay Away From My Gas Stove (Score 1) 292

I wondered because I've seen private plane emissions mentioned on this and other articles. In the U.S. - Gas stoves emit 25 million tons of CO2 Source

In Europe - private planes accounted for ~5 million tons of CO2 over 3 years Source

So flying is amazingly wasteful/polluting but they're probably still coming for your stove because flights are a drop in the bucket comparatively.

I travel to SF for work about every 3 months. The parent is absolutely correct. I had to step over human shit to get to Salesforce Tower. We always walk in groups so we won't be accosted by the homeless, which has happened EVERY SINGLE TIME. Maybe it's you who hasn't been downtown in a while...

I've traveled to SF for work 5 times in the past year and it's turned into a complete shithole. Sure, you might not get murdered there, but you'll never want to go back.

- Have to step over homeless people walking thru the financial district
- Have to step over human shit and needles
- Accosted by homeless for money
- I even had a guy rip his shirt off during they day and follow me around repeatedly asking me for my shirt
- 35% of commercial real estate vacant

I recently saw someone ask in a Facebook group where they should visit on a trip to SF and everyone in the group said "skip it" until the city can sort out all of its problems.

These aren't any better arguments than what people are already here posting.

In the very articles you quote, the only reason sleep scientists want to keep DST is because some cities will have late sunrises in the winter. Those states/citiec should rethink their timezone. For instance, it's absolutely bonkers that Indiana is on EST.

It seems disingenuous to say you can't compare them. Snowcrash is tech heavy and Ready Player One is more 80s nostalgia but the core concept of a "metaverse" ties the two together. RPO obviously owes a huge debt to Snowcrash coming before it.

Plus, RPO actually had an ending, unlike ever Stephenson book.

Comment Re:Snow Crash is outrageously under-utilized. (Score 1) 26

Honestly, since Ready Player One was already made into a movie, why bother? I like Snowcrash more but it's even older and as such, makes guesses about technological advances that are wrong or we've already move passed.

BTW - I love Snowcrash! Way more than RPO but it feels best to leave it be at this point.
