The company gets to collect data. Your data. They'll get a windfall about how these dishwashers are actually used. This will be useful for their engineering and marketing. They'll also sell your data for profit. There is no way the backend will be run indefinitely, it will be shutdown at some point. There is also no guarantee that they'll not charge for the service. I would expect charging to be introduced and then the service shut down when it's too costly to keep running.

This kind of thing is a cost for our climate failings in the past. I suspect we'll find a lot more similar interactions. Thus far, ships emitting less particulates in the North Atlantic has increased temperature. This is likely similar (but we need more data). There will be more....

MacOS doesn't go from in RAM to on disc/SSD. It's got an intermediary step where it compresses RAM. In my experience 8GB is workable if you are restrained in the number of applications you've got open. If you are liberal about opening applications and browser tabs, more memory is sensible.
