In reality, a q of around 10 is needed, and this is nowhere near that.

So instead of paying 14 - 20k for a heatpump installation, you pay another 100k to insulate the house also? How is that a solution?
The official costs on heat pumps of 7- 10k is complete nonsense. There is no possible way you are getting anything except an undersized unit for that.
There are several reasons.
1. General inflation
2. Massive lack of supply
3. Even greater lack of supply of high temp heatpumps
4. A generation of Germans looking down at traddies have made going into the trade less desirable, creating a shortage of qualified people.
5. A shit tonne of people booking projects during the pandemic ensured that the trades can pick and choose only the most profitable jobs.

In Germany, you cannot even get a fucking gardener to come out and give a quote to lanscape your property, let a lone someone to come and insulate your house.
External Insulation, which is all we use here is stupidly expensive to install right now. Many houses do not have large roof eves, so this means you also need the roof extended.

Comment Good luck getting one (Score 4, Informative) 203

The average wait time in Germany to get a heat pump installed is more than 1 year.
It is very difficult to even get someone to come out and give you an offer since most of the heating companies know that they cannot deliver anything for a long time.

Then there is the issue that most people have older houses over hear. That means standard radiators for the vast majority of houses and no underfloor heating.
Most heat pumps only get the water up to 55 - 60c, which is not really hot enough unless you have underfloor heaters or very large radiators.
There are a couple pumps on the market able to get to the 70 - 75c range, but they are very new, very expensive and very, very limited in their availability.

It will be at least 10 years before most houses have switched from gas/oil to heat pumps.
Especially when you consider that up until about 5 years ago, the government was giving massive incentives to install new gas systems. I personally did this and have no interesting in spending another 20k,
One could imagine that in 10 years the German government will change course again and fuck everyone that just spent money on a heat pump. Germany likes to pretend they know best, but from my experience, the government here is even more incompetent that most.

However, in general terms, the entire continent is unable to maintain even what the West would consider a substandard quality of life. Due to this, we see wave after wave of migrants illegally coming to Europe in order to seek a better life.
An increase in population by at least 50%, as is being predicted will have the effect of drowning Europe in a wave of being and in the process throwing Europe into such a state of poverty that it will likely never recover.
Nevertheless, on the continent of Africa it is likely to see a million or more die from starvation as matter of normal business. They simply cannot feed the people they have now.

You actually don't have any notion of the speed, other than a longer acceleration profile. What you do notice for the entire flight however was the noise. It was ridiculously loud.
Doing combat landings and takeoffs in a C130 was more quite than flying in the Concorde.
Being only 15, I was not able to appreciate the time savings.
If I am flying business class, I also cannot really see the need to spend 10k extra to save a few hours off my trip. For that 10K, I would rather upgrade to ultra 1st class on EA or something like that and get a suite.

Wouldnâ(TM)t it be better to charge giant batteries and send them overseas, or smelt aluminum/iron/etc from their oxides using the same energy to be turned into heat or other forms of energy in Germany?

;

In order to power Germany's imported energy needs with batteries (about 400TWh) it would take BYD or Tesla the better part of 400 years to produce the batteries needed, as neither company can product 1TWh/year at the moment.
Given that the cost of the average 10 kWh hour battery is about 7k, it would cost trillions of Euros.

Batteries are total shit for grid scale. They are really good for frequency correction though and can do that much faster than a gas plant.
Hydrogen has massively more energy density than any battery. If you use it as a fuel cell, the efficiency is pretty poor. If you burn it in a gas plant? Another story all together.
