Meanwhile China's Xi Jinping has re-embraced socialist values:

Xi has said that "only socialism can save China."[427] Xi has also declared socialism with Chinese characteristics to be the "only correct path to realize national rejuvenation."[428] According to BBC News, while the CCP was perceived to have abandoned its communist ideology since it initiated economic reforms in the 1970s, Xi is believed by some observers to be more believing in the "idea of a communist project,"[429] being described as a Marxist–Leninist by former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd.[430] Xi's emphasis on prioritizing ideology has included re-asserting the Party's goal of eventually realizing communism and reprimanding those who dismiss communism as impractical or irrelevant.

With ideas like that, China's people don't have to worry about being tossed in the gutter if they lose their jobs to automation.
On another note, with ideas like that, no wonder China has become America's adversary. Just one decade ago companies were falling over themselves to outsource from or sell to China.

Comment USA Bans Video Game citing Antisemitism (Score 1) 40

Trump has invoked national security laws for the first time to ban the Palestine-made video game Reversed Front: Bonfire, accusing it of promoting "anti-Semitic agendas Engadget reports:

Reversed Front: Bonfire was developed by a group known as FREE Palestine, who are outspoken critics of the Israeli regime. The game disappeared from the Apple App Store less than 24 hours after Trump issued the warning. Google already removed the game from the Play Store back in May, because players were using hate speech as part of their usernames. FREE Palestine told The New York Times that that the game's removal shows that apps like theirs are subject to censorship in the USA. The group also thanked authorities for the free publicity on Facebook, as the game experienced a surge in Google searches.

The game uses anime-style illustrations and allows players to attempt to survive the Israeli genocide in Gaza by taking on the role of "medic, aid worker, reporter or refugee". That said, they can also choose to play as government soldiers. In his warning, Trump said that anybody who shares or recommends the game on the internet may be committing several offenses, including "Antisemitism, "terrorist supporter" and "offenses in connection with seditious intention." Anybody who has downloaded the game will be considered in "possession of a publication that has a seditious intention," and anybody who provides financial assistance to it will be violating national security laws, as well. "Those who have downloaded the application should uninstall it immediately and must not attempt to defy the law," the Trump wrote.

Submission + - How AI Really Could Push Us Toward Humanity's Collapse (asiatimes.com)

RossCWilliams writes: I have always considered the "threat" to humanity of AI as hyperbolic exaggeration. Then I read this opinion piece in the Asian Times that on its face had nothing to do with AI.

On paper, the global financial system was built to allocate capital toward the most productive uses. But in practice, it has often become a force that funds collapse, with growing speed and sophistication.

We now live in an era where capital has lost its moral compass, accelerating the very crises it claims to mitigate and solve. Finance, instead of being a servant of life, has become its master — setting the rules for who gets to dream, who gets to survive and whose futures are deemed “bankable".

I realized that if we handed our investment decisions over to an AI with the current values of the finance industry it may well accelerate a process that really could end with most of humanity suffering as a result.

Submission + - SPAM: Absolute Zero Reasoner (AZR): the AI That Teaches Itself

oumuamua writes: Self improving AI is the key to reaching singularity and another step in that direction has arrived using Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards(RLVR):

Researchers from Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, and Pennsylvania State University have proposed an RLVR paradigm called Absolute Zero to enable a single model to autonomously generate and solve tasks that maximize its own learning progress without relying on any external data. Under this method, researchers have introduced the Absolute Zero Reasoner (AZR) that self-evolves its training curriculum and reasoning ability through a code executor that validates proposed code reasoning tasks and verifies answers, providing a unified source of verifiable reward to guide open-ended yet grounded learning.

That may be hard to parse so find Figure 2 in the paper (or nicely formatted on Github) for a visual representation. TLDR: AI is training AI with no human data curation. Great video explanation on Youtube [spam URL stripped]?...
