ST:TOS was not woke, and I don't know WTF people suddenly started saying that TOS, a 60yo show, is 2024 woke. TOS was a display of equality and opportunity, but opportuniy arose only if you proved yourself to be capable. Sulu, Uhura, Dr. MBenga, the black Commodore, the black Admiral, Spock, Dr. Daystom,et. al were there because the were the cream of the crop, not because they weren't born with a silver-spoon in their mouth.
There was no equity in TOS, nor was there any of the woke mind virus of 2024, and since when people speak of wokeness or equity they are almost always referrring to black people, let's use Uhura as an example. She was 4th in command (right?) not because she was black or because she was a woman, or opressed, or wasn't born into a wealthy family, but she got to where she is because she worked hard and because of her abilities, like cream she rose to the top and was excellent at her job. On the couple of occasions when Uhura made a mistake, Kirk let her have it and ripped her a new one. I felt that he was less angry at her but was more disappointed in her because Jim knew she could perform better than how she did at that moment.
Discovery characters seem to be the opposite-they were put there just because of their race, sex, sexual orientation, political view, etc instead of chosen for their skills or performance. The characters are there just to fill the nonsensical woke checkboxes. As Spock or any Vulcan would say "That is highly illogical"
TOS exuded the opposite of equity: equality. Wokeness has nothing to do with equality and I will argue that equality and wokeness are nearly polar opposites. Equality gives everyone a chance, but equity is all about display and signalling virtue.
