Submission + - Playstation Netowrk Outage Compensation (computerandvideogames.com)

ogar572 writes: So Sony is going to give 20 million+ Playstation Network Users (numbers vary based on what article you read) 2 free games and free credit protection (U.S. only) for what happened a few weeks ago. I for one do miss playing Black Ops online but I have made it through this outage by doing other, more productive things. What I am most frustrated about is their lack of consistent details and informing me via email about what is going on. Now they have came out and said that they are going to compensate us with 2 free downloadable game (more than likely I have never heard of these games before) . I would have been satisfied with the free credit protection. Now that they want to offer me 2 games, why can't I pick any 2 games that I want. I mean, my personal info is now probably being sold on the black market because of you. Slashdot community, what do you think Sony should do, if anything, to compensate for what has happened?

Submission + - Define: /etc

ogar572 writes: There has been an ongoing and heated debate around the office concerning the definition of what /etc means on *nix operating systems. One side says "et cetera" per Wikipedia. Another side says it means "extended tool chest" per this gnome mailing list entry or per this Norwegian article. Yet another side says neither, but he doesn't remember exactly what he heard in the past. All he remembers is that he was flamed when he called it "et cetera", but that "extended tool chest" didn't sound right either. So, what does it really mean?
