It's not expensive to add AM coverage to the radio itself. However, many cars, especially EVs, flagrantly exceed FCC limits on RF noise pollution, and this is far worse on AM (which picks up noise as signal) than FM (which suppresses some noise and receives less due to the higher frequency). So the cost is not in the radio but in fixing the el cheapo badly filtered car power system so that the AM radio isn't wiped out by it.

Of course after you do all that almost all that's on AM is junk, lots of Rush wannabees, though there is diverse ethnic programming in some cities.

I grew up eating Gros Michel and remember it fondly. Cavendish is not nearly as tasty. And yes, I am over 70 -- it was the 1950s.

If you hunt around you can find a few sellers offering Gros Michel bananas as exotic specialty fruits, grown in remote (from other bananas) areas like Miami. But they're not in stores. And a blight is coming for Cavendish, so they'd better have new varieties lined up.

I don't know if HEB includes a tip, but I know that Walmart doesn't do tips. When I worked in the front end of a Walmart Supercenter six years ago, associates were trained to refuse tips, and if someone insists, to ring it up as a donation to whatever charity Walmart is collecting for at the time. Often that ends up being the nearest Children's Miracle Network hospital.

Do you have the code for the compiler, and compile that yourself too?

If you have three different compilers for a language, and you bootstrap a compiler using all three of them, the first generation (e.g. GCC compiled with QuestionableCC, ShadyCC, or SlopCC) should be functionally identical, and the second generation (GCC compiled with GCC, which was compiled with the other compiler) should be bit-identical. See "Fully Countering Trusting Trust through Diverse Double-Compiling" by David A. Wheeler. Some people have trouble trusting Rust because only the latest stable rustc can compile the latest stable rustc.

Digital games themselves did not lower prices, despite them being marketed as doing so without the cost of materials/packaging/handling/shipping

From the summary: "Current prices are tied to retail. Without physical discs holding digital hostage we'll see a larger spectrum of pricing." As I understand this, paid downloads did not lower prices of AAA games because of retail price parity contracts. Paid downloads did, however, make the $5 to $20 tier for indie game pricing viable.

One thing not mentioned in the summary is that publishers of games distributed in physical copies owe a royalty to the age rating agency of each region in which a game is published. Publishers of downloadable games do not, instead relying on self-certification through the IARC form. The age rating agencies allow this because it's a lot more practical to update a game once it is found to have been misclassified.

China can't manufacture the high end chips yet, but they do have their own supply chain for midrange SOCs and memory. Gigadevices cloned some European SOCs. They work. Chinese contract manufacturers build to the quality level the customer pays for. You want cheap junk, they're happy. You want good, they can. And their native design capabilities are catching up. The US, in contrast, is now mainly an exporter of raw materials -- wood, scrap metal, animal feed. Plus weapons to allies and airplanes, though Boeing's reputation ain't what it used to be.
