The touchbar is just apple watch hardware, I shit you not, they crammed a stretched out watch into the macbook pro so they could justify jacking up the price further and also pay off the expensive development of a watch product that for most of its life until very recently, was a failure. Apple Watch is an example of a forced product, they forced it until it succeeded.
they kept the "touchbar watch development subsidy system" in place until contracts expired, they didn't "listen" and remove it, they got rid of a bad idea after several years of torturing their customer base about it because they're basically ferengi, a contract is a contact is a contract. Quanta who really designs and makes these things, has Apple and therefore their entire customer base, by the balls. Which means China themselves have the lot of them by the balls too. So there's also that to unpack....
I Service these fucking things alongside all of apple's other hardware and we see one watch at most every month, ONE. Tons of laptops and phones, but we barely see the watches, not because they don't break, because they're THAT rare. It's a failed product and Apple's basically just making it for themselves and a small market of elites that can afford this wankery.
