Ok I am looking for a dictionary of naughty words that I intend to use to filter some content. I have searched around but haven't found much yet (ironically, many blog type places that have posted this type of list have been filtered by the site that hosts their blog). I don't want to search on a form, I need an actual list of words (in an electronic format). I suppose I could have everyone contribute their top ten favorites, but I am too lazy to compile them all into a list :-)

    "Breast" can be considered "naughty", but what about articles about "Breast Cancer".

    What when I want to know more about Philip K. Dick?

    Or perhaps about E.E.Cummings?

    Or even go to expertsexchange.com

    That's just examples on top of my head....

      I was about to berate your for referring to him in uppercase, but then while reading the Wikipedia article on him [wikipedia.org], I realized that the uppercase would actually be considered proper for those of us who aren't him (which I think is most of us).

      My top ten list:

      1. Coprolyte
      2. Coprophagy
      3. Urolagnia
      4. Taint/perineum
      5. Balzac [wikipedia.org] (what?)
      6. Scrotus [urbandictionary.com]
      7. Bush (along a similar vein)
      8. Pubic tubercle
      9. Superior pubic ramus
      10. Coprolalia (you can never get too much copro-)

        I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think this page will get indexed. Journals are skipped.
      • It could be due to the fact that coprolyte [reference.com] is not a word, but coprolite [reference.com] is.

        The great thing about taking a Geology minor is not only knowing what a coprolite is, but having one in the collection, too!
        • Coprolytes are coprolites that have been ground up into powder and dissolved into water to form a drink—like electrolytes, but shittier. ;)
    • But you need the "inbetween words" as filler.

      Without connecting forms, profanity makes no sense at all!

      Actually I am not trying to filter what people type in, but a list (looooong list) of words, if a user so chooses, sorta like google's safe search for example. I am not trying to guarantee every word isn't naughty, but I would like to at least trim off the obviously naughty ones, if a user so chooses. I could go and edit the list by hand, but that would be rather time consuming.

      I wish someone WOULD block expertsexchange.com. Terrible site, keeps coming up number 1 for most technical google queries on Windows-related subjects, only to tell you you have to pay a toll to continue and read some vague and usually wrong answer.

      My favorite filtering story.

      Apparently in the '90s the British were trying to implement a national filter, but they completely trashed all discussions of football. There are three teams that the filters kept censoring:

      • Arsenal - pretty obvious why;
      • Scunthorp - much more subtle; and
      • Manchester-fucking-United.

  • Just rent South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, and take good notes. That should just about cover all of them, even the more obscure curses like "Barbra Streisand".

      So all I need is a transcript, sort words by how often they are used, take the top 100 and I am all set.... :-)
  • Well, if you want to also exclude alternative impolite expressions used in lieu of common words (and probably prevent most people from being able to have a coherent conversation - hehe), George Carlin has a nice NSFW list here:
