Journal nizo's Journal: All you can eat sushi 17

Today I saw an all you can eat sushi restaurant. I thought of a catchy slogan they could use: "Eat until you barf, and then eat some more! All for one low price". My marketing talents are clearly wasted in my current job.

All you can eat sushi

  • Sushi spoils quickly. I've been to resteraunts that offer it on their all-you-can eat bars, and the stuff gets changed out frequently.

As for the taste...it's OK. I don't like or dislike it, it doesn't have a strong enough taste to pique my interest either way.

Call me a philistine, call me an ugly american, I can take it and probably deserve it.

My philosophy: why would you go for sushi when there's a perfectly good barbecue joint nearby?
    • Man, that's exactly the way I think. My co-workers suggest sushi for lunch, I take that as a sign to pass. I'd rather hit a local BBQ joint or pick up a cheesesteak.

I've tried sushi, twice. It's just not for me.

    • "why would you go for sushi when there's a perfectly good barbecue joint nearby"

or even a mediocre barbecue joint not so near.
    • I was with a friend at one of those sushi places that has the little boats going by with sushi. My thought was to make it even better, instead of sushi have little boats carrying hot wings, ribs, fried chicken, and the like;-)
  • Sea food, then eat it!
  • "Eat until you barf, and then eat some more! All for one low price".

All the food you can't eat! One price only!
  • I was at the Shedd Aquarium sunday. Man, I'm hankering for sushi now.
    • Oh man, I have always wanted to visit the Shedd Aquarium ever since I saw it in Simcity 2000 (or was it a later one; I can't recall) :-)
      • It's completely awesome. The dolphins were lackluster, but the whales were simply amazing. Just amazing. They are so huge, and so quiet. As you look at them, you wonder who's looking at who. There was this big female cow that just floated on the surface for 40 minutes looking at a lady who just kept taking pictures. I've never seen anything like it.
        • Aside from the aquarium in Monterrey, I would recommend the one in Mystic CT. If I ever am in Chicago I will check out the aquarium there :-)

Kinda back on topic, I remember visiting this little fishing shack out in NC, and seeing "dolphin" on the list of available fresh catches. I nearly blew a gasket, until I realized that there is a dolphin fish (no relation to our warm blooded friends). Sheesh.

          • I once attended a conference near Monterey, which held its banquet at the Aquarium and served ... sushi. That was just wrong :).

But I do love sushi, as long as it's not served as though it came fresh from the display. Sushi Mike's in Westchester (NY) is awesome... they even have a roll wrapped in fresh banana!

            • Heh (I love the Monterrey aquarium).

Wow I haven't heard from you for awhile, whatchya been up to lately?

  • I suppose it's an acquired taste.. but once you're hooked, look out! There are a few all-you-can-eat sushi places here in Chicago, but none of them really impressed me. Sushi is more about quality than quantity.

  • The rice fills you up quickly. And buffet sushi is NEVER as good as the little hole in the wall places that lovingly craft each piece just for you.
  • And they had a $14.95 all you can eat Sushi lunch. It was heaven! They gave you real sushi, good roasted japanese green tea, and good service. The restaurant was at the garage level of the Westin, but was one of my faves.

Sadly, they disappeared. Just like my fave chinese place that closed after probably 15 years at NW Market Street and 8th Ave NW.

    I'll miss them both.
