Among widely available fonts under OFL, GNU GPL for Fonts, or other free licenses, not many of them cover the 2,100-odd Jouyou (regularly used) kanji and 1,000 name kanji that BadDreamer mentioned. It's a lot easier to make a font that covers 100-200 characters from two alphabets, such as Chilanka that covers the Latin and Malayalam scripts in a distinctive and dyslexia-friendly handwritten style, than one that covers 3,000 different kanji made of 600 radicals (as iggymanz mentioned) with manually-tuned slight variations to their shapes to make them fit next to each other in a character.

Codeberg is very nice, all the more so because it's a non-profit that's made efforts to protect itself from risks of enshitiffication. You can self host its entire system, Forgejo, which, while not at the same level as Gitlab, also requires exponentially less resources for something that implements everything most people want or need, and only misses a small number of things the power users want. You can easily self host on a Pi, if you don't have a server set up for that kind of thing.

Codeberg largely exists because of issues with Gitea's management and signs it was about to follow Gitlab in the enshittification path. While those fears haven't been realized, Codeberg forked Gitea into Forgejo, and that seems, now, to be where the mindshare is.

(I honestly think we're not going to see any progress in computing back to positive things if those with the skills to self host stuff don't start doing so and don't start working on making it easier for everyone to self host everything. But that's a different rant. Point is, Codeberg is great if you're not ready to do that yet, and Forgejo is even better if you are.)

Exclusive use of kana (Japanese phonetic characters) was common in games for MSX, Famicom, and other 8-bit platforms. Maybe this is true, for some particular set of truths, but there's always a number of ways you can look at a situation. For example, I would argue that no one and no computer should be driving in the bulk of situations we are currently driving in, because cars are a terrible mode of transportation in the cities where most people live.

That's true, but that doesn't make what you said above correct. Left and right are very, very different things, and it very much does matter which you get.
