Comment Best of both battery worlds (Score 1) 325

Even better idea: I buy a car with, say, batteries for (configurable) 100 miles worth of range. I use this for my commuting. When I want to go on a road trip, I stop by the battery spot, they rent me batteries for an extra, say, 300 miles worth of range which I swap out at battery stops. When I get home, I return the rented pack. I only pay for the 100 mile batteries when I buy the car and only deal with the extra batteries and their costs on the rare occasions when I need them. Most of the time my car is lighter and, therefore, more efficient. Seems like the best of both worlds.

We don't just need to plant 3 trees per year, we would need to ensure they lived to maturity. This is tougher to accomplish. We'd probably want to plant a *lot* of trees to make sure 3 per year made it to maturity.

Of course, if we reduce our per capita carbon footprints, for example through non-fossil fuel power generation, electrification, sustainable construction, and lower carbon agricultural practices, then we wouldn't need so much carbon capture, and maybe we could create a liveable future.

I agree. I have no problems with the use of SMR technology, what I have a problem with are hard disk manufacturers who are switching their drives to it *without* *labeling* them as such. I just want to be able to look at the spec sheet or packaging and be able to tell which technology a given disk uses. *This* is the reason I have a real problem with what Western Digital has done in this case.
