And as for emergencies just buy a radio. Don't force me to spend an extra couple hundred bucks on my car radio

There's a whole Emergency Broadcasting System set up to operate on AM with all infrastructure and long tested procedures solidly in place. The dismal entertainment value of AM radio means few now have them (and even fewer people are preppers). In emergencies, buying anything - if it's possible at all - will be extremely expensive, difficult, and usually outright dangerous. An AM car radio these days is $5 worth of chips added to the sound system - the real cost of implementing this wouldn't be in the hundreds.

Nonsense, we closed the door on copying data with the DCMA and cheerfully accept devices that make using that capability difficult and risky for the multitudes. We could apply the same pressure to regulating AI if there was the will to do so. "Too late" is the just the fantacy the Tech bros want us to believe

The hilarious thing is that all the subsequent generations - with the exception of Gen Z - made the same mistakes, ignored the same warnings and differed the same measures as the Boomers did, no difference at all. As for Gen Z, they do not hold political power and they sound just like the Boomer kids did when they were young held no political power.

So if you are not Gen Z. take a look in the mirror when you start hurling blame. If you are Gen Z, I hope you hang on to your principals as you age.

I'm sure the estimated half million Russians who have died fighting in Ukraine have no great love for their kleptocratic regime either, still, technically it's also an all volunteer army. Offering 5 years wages for signing, and half that again as a death benefit to your family has kept the ranks filled to the point that commanders squander them on a regular basis. Not so long ago Musk was paying a million for a single vote, I think we can manage it.
