Comment HP are even worse. (Score 1) 78

Someone at work has two HP laptops with the centre plastic part of the power port broken. He asked for a quote from HP for two replacement parts. It's just two wires going to a small barrel jack port.
First they said he can only get a quote for one, then go through the whole process again for the second one. He said, okay, give me a quote for two for this laptop so I have a spare for it. They wouldn't do that either.
Then they sent a price. £372 (ex. vat), £446 with VAT. The whole laptop cost £345 (ex. vat).
On amazon the power port is it's £12
The part is easy to replace.

Dell was also terrible. It gave a price of more than a laptop to replace a port on it and insisted on replacing the screen, case and other parts that had nothing to do with the problem.

I've been doing this since the 90s. Once adverts got incredibly annoying and louder I started muting (or changing the channel for a few minutes).
These days I don't watch as much on our commercial stations (I'm in the UK), but the things I do watch are always muted and I go on the internet or read a magazine until it's back on. I also record things, then start watching after 20 mins, so I can just skip them and catch up by the end.

Trump is saying that Apple being fined for not paying EU taxes in the EU isn't okay, but if someone born in the US lives in the EU the US takes taxes from them as well as the expected EU taxes.
From what I've heard, apart from one small country, the US is the only place that taxes people who aren't even living or working in that country.

I got to work from home for 5 months in 2020. That's it. And for the last 2 months if that I was coming to the office between 1 and 3 times a week.
After that we were told to come back in. That wasn't up for discussion. They employ me and that's what they said. I can't just say I don't want to come in, as that's a breach of contract. They would just fire me and get someone else.
I find it incredible that people are still working from home because of Covid.

I didn't know this video series had been happening, but ASUS has been on "my list" for many years since refusing to replace a graphics card that broke under warranty. I've mentioned it before in comment on ASUS related stories. I once sent them an email telling them of all the lost sales because of it (my own PCs, and also all the PCs I've bought for work).
I'll have to watch the video's when I get home.

The software we use at our school logs a screenshot every time someone right clicks in a spreadsheet: "Format C", which is actually "Format Cell", but it doesn't care about the rest of the word.
It also takes screen shots of the most insane things that are counted as terrorism or bullying. Having it installed seems to be just so the school can tick a box.
