Gmail search fails to display any emails when one searches for subject:("something with | a pipe") even when right-clicking an existing message and selecting 'find messages with this subject'.

It's baffling how a company whose name is synonymous with the verb "to search" can fall so hard at searching through email.

It's the second 90% that's hard.

This is why any time I give an estimate: double it an add 50%.

By example, if I want to automate some task and I figure 2 days to put the script together; it will take 5 days before it's production ready including documentation, monitoring and alerting. Those 5 days effort will take 3 calendar weeks since I'll get busy with incidents and other projects.

Play enough ksp and you'll come to learn that altitude affects orbital speed. When the debris speeds up, its elevation is low down; when the debris slows down and reverses direction, that happens when the elevation is back to or higher than geostationary altitude.

All games, I expect to be able to play forever and ever and ever.

100% agree that experience matters most. Read lots and lots of documentation. Read the owners manual for your home appliance and automobiles. Read computer service manuals, software installation and maintenance guides. Read API listings with usage details and CLI guides for computer hardware appliances.

As you read those, you'll find the parts you like and the parts you hate. Copy the parts you like, then practice writing docs as much as you can.

Later, go back and try to follow what you wrote, coming in with a clean start.

That is how I gained experience and I'm often commended by my peers and leaders for creating documentation for them to follow.
