Comment Mint is good, but gets old (Score 1) 83

I really like Mint + Cinnamon in general, but it was getting really old earlier in the year. I got new hardware and had to use Fedora + Cinnamon for a while on two machines and grew to like it. Wish I'd tried it earlier.

It just about as polished... some things are more polished, a few things less. For example, Fedora doesn't have the nice package update GUI that Mint does. But, I typically use the CLI with aliases to update anyway, so no biggie. DNF seems to be getting better than apt, though I had to write a script to force my mirror to California instead of anywhere in North America. Firewall now happier. So I've mitigated the Fedora issues. I'm trying out things like systemd-boot and UKI.

All in all, getting new tech, kernels, Python X+1, and apps up to *two years* earlier is a big gain in my book. I need to use flatpak even less.

Comment Re: I don't think we need this, good luck anyway (Score 1) 191

Read barlevg's comment again. barlevg gives reasons why it *wasn't* right-wing.

My comment adds another, additional reason.

You've taken it the wrong way and run with it in the wrong direction, as have your replies.

(Yes, I probably should have been extra explicit.)

Not really. In the old days badass chicks in movies were just that. Think Ripley in Aliens, or S.Connor in T2. Today we get paper-thin mary sues who are simply better and more virtuous than the rest of us, simply by having XX chromosomes.

The last few years they have been shoving that shit down our throats at the expense of story. Big difference.

Comment Carrie was not a health nut... (Score 1) 165

Now, I adored Carrie as Leia over the years but lets face it, she was not a health nut.

I remember seeing her waddle around in Force Awakens and thinking she didn't look well enough to be a standing general. Same age as Alec Guinness or not I don't see her having the stamina for the role of swordfighting Jedi without a lot of training and lifestyle changes over the course of at least a year. Perhaps there was time, but we all know how the story ends.
