Yes, I saw it at exactly 2600.
Those were the days, eh?
I didn't expect it to turn into what it is now. However, I was adequeately equipped to deal with it.
alt.2600, phone phreaking (over ma bell's copper network) 2wire (or 4 wire if you were one of us, line 1 and 2)
Had the computer running everything it needed to back then. Answering Machine, Fax, BBS, yes... those were the days. When getting a javascript to even run on a server was something to be proud of. We had to install apache by hand, old files, outdated broken repos... I did not expect it to all of the sudden be so pristine. Now everything for the most part just works. Unless you are in STRICT() mode=(1). There is still a certain magickz to it all. The phresh influx of newbz, future proz.
One thing that really sucks though, seeing all your favorite distros, and your heroes of programming mastery just dying off. That really sux. U can tell too.... they always have a similiar issue before tapering off, eventually tapered to maxcap. The great inevitble init 0 (shutdown). That's one thing that will happen for sure. Guaranteed 100%..........yet we hardly accept that as an outcome. I wonder why that is...What's that for exactly cause a simple coping mech could be acheived by blindness. Maybe we all live on in memories, our past etching out a future we all want to be part of. Something immortal that doesn't matter if we can hold it physically. If you are a sentient life form, if you have partaken in the singularity, you know what it's all about and how important it all really is.
How a little number, like 2600 will unite us again.
