This seems like sensationalists journalism by /. because at no point does it say Rupert Murdoch is involved in this more so than the janitor of the company. I love /. He's right and the article explains it better. Apple encourages consumerism more so than Microsoft. 15 years ago that didn't seem possible. You can pick your poison. As a consumer I'm going with Apple, as a moderate hobbyist I'm going with Microsoft and as a real hobbyist I'm going with neither.

The article was written by an employee of the company that sold their testing software/services to MySpace. Of course they're going to have glowing reviews about their testing tools. With that said the author is right. Capacity testing in production is needed for high availability sites. Verifying your real time monitoring tools is also important.

I like this idea. I have non-techy friends, their laptops are riddles with viruses and anti-virus software. To top it off, anti virus software providers are part of the problem. Their free trial popus are almost worse than a virus. So, the need exists. Any /. isn't going to have this problem but the rest of the world having this problem makes it everyone's problem. Using public funds to keep the net virus free is a good approach. Some services you can't commercialize. If each person had the right to decide to not pay for the DMV, public education or the military then those services wouldn't exist. Keeping the net free does fall into this category. Everyone wants it but no one wants to pay for it...forget where I read this drivel...but its interesting to see why or why not services are privatized.

I have an iPhone so my opinions are speculation. It seems to me that an Android phone is like using desktop linux 10-15 years ago. It was clumsy, with enough effort it could do everything needed and the product wasn't ready for all consumers. I wouldn't recommend linux to my grandmother a decade ago just like I wouldn't recommend and Android phone to her today. Over time the Andriod phones will (hopefully) be more fully featured & easier to use than the iPhone.
