Computer says "NO"

There are problems with the ipod itself. The gen5 video ipod i have has a good wolfson dac, but the analog part of the circuity is messed up. I first spotted this, when i connected my ipod to my h/k receiver. The sound was weirdly dull, not much, but audible. After that i took the same files and played them on a pc, connected a m-audio transit to the toslink port of the h/k and the difference was there. There is a list of problems with ipod analog circuity. But still, ipod is good enough when using erabuds.

There are several "provably secure" computer systems. As in you can demonstrate they fulfil certain mathematical constraints and those constraints are absolute. Then you have to write the code and prove the code, then you have to hope the prover is correct and the hardwareis correct. Nothing is 100%.

As to the randomisation stuff - yes I've got examples, and we've hit the same thing in Linux with randomisation. You get cases where memory scribbles cause a problem only if the layout happens to be a specific variant (especially with stack randomisation). From "either it dies or it works" you get "1 in 10,000 times xyz app blows up". That does make debugging much much harder. Of course a good reply to that is "so improve the debugging tools".

Paramount dropped the Star Trek tag altogether, and it's simply called Enterprise.

Which is fun, because the German translation of the original Star Trek series was called "Enterprise".

I wonder how they'll react to this in the translation of the new Enterprise series.
I'd bet they'll put back the "Star Trek" tag.
