Journal Journal: The more I learn about UEFI

I have been reading and studying a lot about the EFI documentation at Intel and Microsoft's implementation of UEFI at the hardware level as a replacement for the BIOS. The problem as I see it is the one facing unwitting consumers. Imagine Microsoft or Intel pushing an update that knocks users of a particular version of the Windows OS that MS no longer approves of, is unofficial, or is pirated.

Journal Journal: Things I have learned from teaching CIS at a local university

I am back. I have been working like a madman but I have also been teaching at a local university and I can tell you...the future computer techs and programmers that I see are going to be so much better than we were. These young men and women are so bright and talented and have such an imagination that it is actually a pleasure to teach them. This coming May, I am losing two of these students. One is a soldier in the U.S. Army. He is proof that the next generation gets it. These guys are so un

Comment Re:It can be done, and it can even work (Score 1) 2

Thanks. First off my entire goal is to give Picoodle and ServeIO the recognition that they deserve to hosting spam and refusing to remove it when it has been reported to them.

These two sites, ServeIO does web hosting and Picoodle hosts the images, together are hosting the sites for a spammer whose domain I am not going to publicize here to give him/her more attention.

We need to reign these people in and we need Slashdotter's to come down on these two sites. My hope was to draw attention to this issue. Picoodle and ServeIO hosting spam should not be tolerated and yet I cannot get anyone other than you to comment nor provide any help with this.

With that in mind, I thank you for your reply.

To any Slashdotters reading this, Picoodle is hosting spam images for a Craigslist spammer and refuses to delete the violator's accounts. Further ServeIO has been alerted to this spammer's activities and provided with evidence of the abuse and they also refuse to take any action.

Submission + - Firefox to get a nag screen. For upgrades. (ostatic.com)

ruphus13 writes: Firefox has been pushing version 3.0 very aggressively, and firmly believes that it is a solid product. The Download Day was just one of their ways to drum up user support for the new release. Now, Firefox is going to 'gently nudge' users of Firefox 2.0 to upgrade. Several users are waiting for their add-ons to get upgraded, but now, according to the article, "If you've been on the fence about upgrading to Firefox 3.0, Mozilla is planning to give you a little nudge. Sometime within the next week, people using Firefox 2.0.0.16 will see a request to upgrade and though you'll have the option to decline, it's likely Firefox will ask again anyway."..."users will most likely be offered a second change to upgrade after "several weeks."" It will be interesting to see if this speeds up the upgrade by users, as well as upgrades of the add-ons.

Journal Journal: Have you missed me?

I'm back.

I took some time off for a cruise and vacation.

And like Nixon...I'm tanned, rested, and ready.

So let's get to it, shall we?

Someone care to tell me what I've missed over the last several weeks?

Journal Journal: I need a break

Well I've got two classes left for this session. It's been fun and I'm kinda disappointed because I'm really liking this class and I'm really learning something.

I wish that there was a second part to this networking course.

Alas...there isn't and now I've got about a month before I start the next one.

Let's hope I can hold my grade in there for the rest of this session.

Journal Journal: Finishing what you start

Well...today's the day I go back to college. It's time for me to finish what I started all those years ago...getting my Master's degree.

I feel kinda bad because when I was younger, I created a plan for myself and well...I'm 15+ years behind schedule on my plan.

Actually, nothing is how I imagined it but I'm not going to lament about bad...I'm going to look at the positives.

I work at a place where even when I explain what I do, my coworkers don't understand.

Journal Journal: Things get interesting at 40

Well...I'm over my double depression of watching myself turn 40 and watching John Kerry lose the election.

Of the two, Turning 40 is the harder of the two.

For most of my youth I always wondered what was the fascination with turning 40.

Now I know.

When you turn 40, your outlook on things change.

You may like the latest Dre or Eminem joint but you don't dare let anyone catch you listening to it or liking it.

Journal Journal: An interesting week

Well...this has been an interesting week. I've discovered that if you fsck a disk with the incorrect parameters...you fry the disk.

interesting...

another interesting thing that i've learned.

if you drink 24-30 drinks in one night...you get alcohol poisoning and then you're not right for weeks to come.

and believe me...i feel it two weeks later.

Journal Journal: a fun 40th

So I turned 40 on Monday. It was a quiet event and over the weekend the fine folks here gave me a present...I think.

They gave me some meta-mod duties.

I've got to admit that the folks who run this site are smart in keeping users involved so that they feel that they have a vested interest in this site.

Which in turn, keeps them coming back for more.

I know it's worked for me.

And btw...who saw that game last night (Yankees-Red Sox game 6).

Journal Journal: dang....missed out

hmm...well it seems that i missed out on an opportunity to moderate again.

darn...i'd been visiting my girlfriend's grandmother and doing some work around her house.

i took today as a rest day.

shoot...i hope i get another shot at it.

i like modding.

Journal Journal: Wow...

Heh...this is interesting...I just figured out that I've had moderator status for the last 24 or so hours.

I saw a link about moderator info on the bottom of a story and then went back to the main page and saw that I have five (5) moderator points.

Wow...that's got me floored.

I can't wait to use them.
