Rupert Murdoch Claims To Own the 'Sky' In 'Skype' 186

Crudely_Indecent writes "Not content to own just news stories, Rupert Murdoch is now going after individual words! His BSkyB is fighting a legal battle with Skype, claiming that it owns the 'Sky' in 'Skype.' From the article: 'A spokesman for Sky confirmed that the company has been involved in a "five-year dispute with Skype" over trademark applications filed by the telecomms company. These are, the spokesman added: "including, but not limited to, television-related goods and services."'"

Skype Releases Open SDK 108

An anonymous reader writes "SkypeKit gives Linux developers access to core functionality, allowing Linux developers to add video, calling, and instant messaging features to desktop applications. The SDK also comes with the freshly royalty-free SILK codec for high-end audio. Skype is hoping that the inclusion of SILK will popularize the codec, extending its reach. Currently, the SkypeKit beta is only available for Linux on an invite-only basis, with Windows and Mac versions planned in coming weeks. The SDK does not cover Android or Mac, an odd choice considering the announcement of SkypeKit championed itself for extending the functionality of Skype to multiple platforms and devices. Including smartphones in the SDK seems like an obvious move." Ars Technica has a rundown, too.

UK Police To Allow Gun Users To Renew Licenses With iPhone App 271

Sussex police are creating a number of iPhone apps for the public, including one to renew your gun license. Unsurprisingly, the plan has some anti-gun groups upset. Lyn Costello, of Mothers Against Murder and Aggression (MAMAA), said, "This isn't suitable, especially in light of what happened in Cumbria. We've got to be extra careful giving gun licenses. We have this attitude that gun murders don't happen very often so it's OK to be lax, but it is not OK and we've got to do everything in our power to stop it happening again. We can't put money before life and if you start to do that we are losing our humanity. It is a really stupid idea.''

lol nice one guys. Not a totally retarded idea. I liked how the gamespy guys kissed up to the 'developers' though by saying that having less choice in terms of races made the game "quicker" to play. Lol, it really does sound like their style of take spin as the gospel truth attitude. And burgercraft was classic. Not that horrific and idea for high density population areas though. Think of all the starving game that can't get flat foods and Irn bru 32/red bull at 2 in the morning. I cry for them every night. Maybe a link with pizza hut is the future... crazier things have happened and atleast it's a flat food. And again, thanks guys for a brilliant april fools. I was tired and fell for it for too long. lol
