It is a war crime according to the "Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby-Traps and Other Devices".

Article 7 section 2 states: "It is prohibited to use booby-traps or other devices in the form of apparently harmless portable objects which are specifically designed and constructed to contain explosive material."

Israel is a signatory to that agreement.

The number of CVEs assigned to Wordpress + plugins vs Plone + addons is a very misleading metric for making this type of claim.

https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fplugins%2F shows 45,129 Wordpress plugins.

https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpypi.python.org%2Fpypi%3F:... shows 3242 Plone addons.

If you assume rough parity in terms of line of code between a Plone addon and a Wordpress plugin (a dangerous assumption), 10x more Wordpress related CVEs would indicate that Wordpress has a lower density of CVEs per LOC than Plone does.

But, of course, even that comparison is a misleading one to make. There are too many other factors that skew these numbers to draw any meaningful conclusions from them. CVEs simply weren't intended to be used for this kind of comparison.

I wonder the same thing about the scroll wheel. If you just slide you finger along the extreme right side of the screen, it's the same motion without the need for a separate wheel. Zoom would also be less ambiguous if it was done by sliding your index finger along the right side and your thumb along the left side at the same time.

It's probably safe to assume that every obvious way of translating a touch on a watchface into some standard UI concept is already patented though. Maybe the goal was to avoiding some existing patents.

Minecraft Reaches Beta Status, Price Goes Up 279

Eric writes "After over a year of development, Minecraft has hit Beta status today. Minecraft was developed for about a week before its public release on May 17, 2009. With the new milestone, the price of the game has increased to €14.95; when Minecraft moves beyond beta status, it will sell for €20.00. The beta is more focused on polish and content. The aim is to add proper modding support via a stable API, some kind of non-intrusive narrative to help drive the game experience early on, and a late-game goal. Updates will be less frequent, so as to make sure stability is maintained thanks to more extended testing. Despite this, there have already been two beta releases: client and server Beta 1.0 followed quickly by client 1.0_01."

Have I Lost My Gaming Mojo? 418

danabnormal writes "Increasingly I'm being frustrated in my attempts to find a game I want to play. In an effort to catch up, I've been using my bog standard Dell laptop to dig out treasures I have missed, such as American McGee's Alice, Grim Fandango and Syberia. I don't often get the time to play games, so I like to have the opportunity to dip in and out of a title without feeling like I'm losing something by not playing it for periods of time. But when I find a title I like, I make the time. Heavy Rain is the last game that gripped me, that truly engaged me and made me want to complete it in a single sitting. I'm tired of the GTA formulas, bored of CoDs and don't have the reaction time to think on my feet for AOE III. Is it about time I tossed in the controller and resigned myself to the fact that the games I want only come out once in a blue moon? Or have I just not found that one great title that will open me up to a brand new genre? Lords of Ultima is going OK at the moment — is there anything of that ilk I've missed? What are your thoughts? Do you stick to a particular genre? Are you finding it harder, as you get more mature, to find something you want to play?"

Infinity Ward Fights Against Modern Warfare 2 Cheaters 203

Faithbleed writes "IW's Robert Bowling reports on his twitter account that Infinity Ward is giving 2,500 Modern Warfare 2 cheaters the boot. The news comes as the war between IW and MW2's fans rages over the decision to go with IWnet hosting instead of dedicated servers. Unhappy players were quick to come up with hacks that would allow their own servers and various other changes." Despite the dedicated-server complaints, Modern Warfare 2 has sold ridiculously well.
