Here, in the EU, EVs are starting to be cheaper tan their equivalents ICE counterparts. Yeap, I'm a heretic, but just compare prices (I did it, 'cause I've to change my car and I'm baffled because of this. I was in the mantra that EVs where more expensive). And I'm not taking into account any kind of help from the governments. Just compare the price of a Model 3 or Y (or a BYD, or Volvo,...) against it's ICE rivals. Also, the cheap electric cars are coming (at long last). Citroen EC3, VW ID2, ... The problem are the charging infrastructure that is lacking. I'm a lucky guy, 'cause I life in a not so populated area and by the grace of, whatever, we have a surplus of chargers. In my town, only from Tesla, we have 2 superchargers stations with 10 chargers each. And, also, we have other chargers (supermarkets, on parkings, ...). Until, recently, what was strange was seeing them being used.

But in the places that we use them, forget going in with a SUV. Their more dangerous too, their more prone to overturn (higher center of gravity). This goes to all bullshitters. EV's will not go away (drown in gasoline if you like it so much), and as Hydrogen it's not yet here, we will need to stick with gas for those who make long journeys (and I mean LOOONNGGGGGG), and don't have chargers in the route. Taxis are not an example. In my city their going electric, fast. Availability of charging points and more range makes the drivers happy (because their A LOT CHEAPER than gas you petrol head morons). So much words to end in saying nothing. Gold is worth something 'cause we believe so. When we start mining in space it will be worth nothing. Just from the fact that it won't be "scarce" anymore (fun fact there's more gold out there in the universe than living matter). Diamonds are even more funny. We can trace it's "value" to a clever marketing campaign. In the end, if the apocalypse arises, good luck eating gold. NOTE: Preppers are stupid. Without a social group your chances of surviving are 0! So, preppers, prepare for an Apocalypse, but not so much Apocalypse that still we will have a society that values gold because it's useful to make... religious items... like in the times the first civilizations started to arise? It's that some kind of Apocalypless?

Comment Buy gold & diamonds. Aren't they good to eat? (Score 1) 196

If there's no organized society of some kind, as those fear monger hope to go, gold, diamonds, emeralds, whatever... are worth nothing. Food will have value, tools for survival and hunt or grow crops. Only the things that keep people alive will have value.

Comment Let me summarize this crap for you (Score 1) 352

Let's us the EU market as an example of "what doesn't work" (hint: building less cars and more expensive ones. Forget EVs vs ICE and compare the prices between equivalent models in the EU market. Yeah, surprise! The EVs are cheaper without subsidies. And not TCO, BUYING prices). First shoot in the foot: We will make less cars. More expensive. We will become lending companies. More money guaranteed! That was "the tactic" for some manufactures in the EU market. And the second shoot in the foot: for years we have been teaching Chinese companies how to make good cars. Yep, they don't know how to make motors as we do. But they don't need/don't care. With EVs the part that in the EU we do now how to make better than anyone else (sorry US and Japan) it's irrelevant. But worry not, said the CEOs, "the Chinese doesn't understand the nuances of the European car market". But they don't need to. They have bought old firms, or manufacturers in trouble and a lot of middle management and sales execs. The end result? Take Spain as an example. The first year that MG (now a Chinese owned brand but operated from the UK) has come to Spain it has become the top seller brand. In booth EV and ICE. Good cars at reasonable prices (a think most, but not all, EU car manufactures seem to have forgot how to do). Not bad for being your FIRST YEAR in the market. In the end the problem it's not that "EVs doesn't' work". But that we have had/have some pretty bad CEOs. And some companies will pay the price. Others (like some French, and Czech manufacturers) will thrive. Look at Citroen, they are starting to undercut the Chinese even in price on some of it's new EVs. Others, like the VAG group, have to go to China to learn how to make EVs... And, the best selling car in Europe in 2023 (not in the EV category, the best selling of ALL cars) will be the Model Y. Quite a feat for "something that doesn't work". More properly what this CEOs have to use is something like: "we DON'T know how it works".
