Comment Is ventilation bad? (Score 0) 277

Here is a site https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fswprs.org%2Fa-swiss-doct... which put this pandemic into another perspective. I do not know if it is fake news or what its agenda (right wing???), but this statement concerns me:

"According to leading lung specialists, invasive ventilation of Covid19 patients is often counterproductive and causes additional damage to the lungs. The invasive ventilation of Covid19 is partly done out of fear of spreading the virus through aerosols."

Go, read the references and decide. However, it looks like simple oxygen support would be more helpful. Boris Johnson also received oxygen support. The mainstream media does not really report anything about it only how many people are on ventilators.

These statements also appear to be true:

"The often shown exponential curves of 'corona cases' are misleading, since the number of tests also increases exponentially. In most countries, the ratio of positive tests to total tests either remains constant between 5% to 15% or increases only very slowly."

"Countries without lockdowns and contact bans, such as Japan, South Korea and Sweden, have not experienced a more negative course of events than other countries. This may call into question the effectiveness of such far-reaching measures."

Of course, the last statement can be easily turn out to be wrong. Time will tell.

Submission + - Tesla remotely disables Autopilot on used Model S after it was sold (theverge.com)

little1973 writes: Tesla has remotely disabled driver assistance features on a used Model S after it was sold to a customer. The company now claims that the owner of the car, who purchased it from a third-party dealer — a dealer who bought it at an auction held by Tesla itself — “did not pay” for the features and therefore is not eligible to use them.

I agree with you that there is no economic benefit going to a distant star system. Doing such endeavor depends on not only technology but also resources. If the laws of physics are true as we know them, it is possible to do interstellar travel but it will be highly impractical. And it will be a one-way trip. There will be no reason to come back to Earth. So, such a civilization will spread very-very slowly. Some colonies will be even forgotten, destroyed, etc.

And what if the closest habitable planet is 100 light years away? Going there directly from Earth does not make any sense unless Earth is on the brink of destruction. So, you have to spread generally to that direction which should take thousands of years while you have to establish colonies on inhabitable planets along the way. And those colonies must be independent of Earth due to the distance. Why would you do that when you can colonize the planets and moons in the Solar System? Will there be a time when even the Solar System is small for humanity?

Without FTL the whole space-faring idea is just a fantasy.

Comment Didn't they just do measurements? (Score 1) 61

In the whole paper they do not speak of calculations instead they speak of measurements. It seems to me they measured the output of some quantum circuit several million times during the test.

They collected 30 million samples and obtained the Fxeb value. It seems to me the Fxeb was calculated by a classical computer using the 30 million samples.

So, what they built seems to me a measurement device. And for the record I believe in superdeterminism.

I am not a physicist, so if one reads this please answer.
So, the question is how space-time curvature propagate from a massive body? I suppose the propagation happens at the speed of light.

So, if a massive body moves the space-time curvature must move with it. However, since the propagation happens at the speed of light I suppose some kind of bow shock must happen in front of the body. A bow-shock of space-time curvature.

This means if a spaceship travels FTL, it will outrun its own space-time curvature caused by its own mass. I am pretty sure that's impossible according to GR.

GM: So, in this sense, superposition is a mental construct, whereas the real world doesnâ(TM)t really have that. We created a problem by our choice of this convenient tool of quantum mechanics to do our statistics for us.

GtH: Yes, thereâ(TM)s no superposition. The only superpositions are in our way of describing whatâ(TM)s going on. For very good reason: we can make transformations such that we can describe the vacuum as a single state. In reality, the vacuum is probably a very complex, fluctuating mode. If you make superpositions, you can make a single state look like the vacuum.

What if space itself is energy? An energy which we perceive as space rather than matter. Do not confuse this idea with the vacuum energy.

If space is energy that means everything in the Universe is energy. Basically, the Universe can be thought of as a giant ball of energy. There is no need to separate the Universe into space and energy.

In this context dark energy can be considered a kind of energy which has not turned into space, yet. As the Universe expands I think dark energy decreases. At least that's my idea.

I think Apple does not have to pay this fee annually or something after they sold the phones to customers.
