Workday and can't go anywhere, but very, ahem, noteworthy stuff I learned from my Japanese instructor today.
The background story is that for middle-school and high-school in the tatebayashi(éæz--) area, the schools (public ones, that is) are sex-separated. At the Tatebayashi station, the boys would go one way and girls the other - toward their perspective schools.
According to her, while she can't be sure of the boys side of things - apparently on the girls' side there are so much "unspent capacity to love" (I am quoting Natasha Rostova's description from "War and Peace," when she was away from Prince Andrei), that girls writing love letters to eachother is not unheard of. (!)
I mean, I have been through my share of living amongst homosexual individuals, but still seems quite a bit too early, eh? Especially considering that it's probably more environmental than anything else.
It is not surprising, hence, to hear that the few single male teachers at such a school would recieve unbelievably amounts of chocolate on valentine's day =). And moreover, marriages between teacher and students are not at all rare...
So, if any guys out there still have doubts about the perfect way of landing a japanese wife - becoming a foreign language teacher at an all-girls' school would probably be it!
It does, on the other hand, seriously makes me wonder about the boys' side...

One of my schoolmate's mom was a Japanese teacher. She offered to instruct me in Japanese for free (which,

Amen brother! I swear highschool is the leading cause of psychological trauma in people.
I went to one of the state-run boarding school for "Math Science and Arts," and maybe because being partly "for the Arts," I have seen higher concentration of flaming homosexuals in the boys' dorm than if I was cruising down SF... My room-mate became quite good friends with one of them, and he (the gay friend) would frequently come into the room, plop down onto my roommate's bed in a cleo
