Journal lemming's Journal: Another bachelor falls from the grace of our proud ranks 2

Yes, Frances and Jonathan went and tied the knot.

"We are not 'but[t]' people!"

The ceremony was both beautiful and entertaining--Uncle Dan was fantastic. I'm not one for religion or ceremonies, but even I could appreciate it. It is a bit frustrating not to know any of the secret clubhouse passphrases though. Next time, they should print me the full Unabridged Heathen Edition of the program, so I know the right responses.

"But it was a +2 arrow!" *table bursts into laughter*

The reception was also a good time--you put that many great people in one place, they'll enjoy themselves. Yes, there were a lot of geeky techers, but a lot of geeky non-techers too. :)

Of course, I have to admit that I especially enjoyed the reception--a quite attractive young lady graced my lap, which passed the time pleasantly. Oddly enough, she turned out to be genuinely interesting/cool to boot--though I must admit, it took me a while to notice.

"I'll call you if we end up in a bad part of town."

After the reception, several of us decided to go dancing. A surprising number knew a fair bit of Salsa, more than enough to chillax and have good time for an evening. The question was, where could we go? Having someone under 21 in the party especially complicated things.

After a couple of hours of not having any idea what to do, and sending calls all over the place, I suddenly remember--my parents have a small dance hall (a converted 2-car garage) behind their house. FTW! More than enough space for us, plus a nice sound system. We got nearly two hours of continuous dancing in (zomgtehheatzors) before everyone drove home exhausted--tired and sweaty means you did it right.

Quote spoilers in comment thread! (probably later tho, having trouble posting for some reason.)

An excerpt from the ceremony, spoken by Uncle Dan. He was comparing the use of the word "and" (which brings two things together, of equal importantce) to the use of the word "but" (whatever comes after the "but" is more important.) This was a wonderfully timed and delivered line, with enough humor to break some of the tension while still making a good point. Go Uncle Dan! (Oh, to avoid some confusion that has already come up--Uncle Dan is Joseph and Frances' uncle, but he's
