Journal Journal: Extremely frustrated with my fellow earth men and women...

I saw the news post http://yro.slashdot.org/story/12/06/18/1429257/the-uns-push-for-power-over-the-internet and started to read the comments. I noticed that the argument over the quality of the U.N. was becoming the primary focus. I wager that fewer than 5% of the populace understands the existing "control" over the Internet. About 2% of all IXP peering agreements make it to a signed contract.

I see that we have a lot of work to do on the education front. I advise any citizens of the USA to live in one of these countries for a few months or longer and then come back to this discussion. The Department of Commerce is doing a good job of paying the bills and the AD-Hoc nature is working well for everything else. Vint Cerf even when out of his way to mention this recently. Always remember that the Internet started as a DARPA project to keep communication up when actions happen to prevent it.

The Internet is here. Its for looking at lolcats.

While I am new to Chile I do know my facts. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cities_in_Chile#Largest_cities Concepción is not even in the top 10 Cities. The Conurbation of Concepción is the second largest Conurbation.

The news being broadcast in the USA show pictures of destruction of a few places, the tsunamis are the big concern as the Chileans watch the news of deaths in Asia... I walked to the office today in Vina and did not see any issues with buildings other than some broken windows... A crack in the cooling system on the Data Center is the biggest damage I have experienced...

Sad to say but I think that you are on to something. I get several emails offering to buy and sell contact lists on email all the time. I wonder exactly what the product line looks like for these groups that buy and sell lists? "For an extra $500 you get matching SSN"!!! "Need us to sort the data, we will stop by and pick up your laptop with cash payment and completed police report."

Third Stargate TV Series Named 240

GateWorld has a story about the new Stargate series. "The working title of the third 'Stargate' television series is 'Stargate Universe', executive producer Robert C. Cooper told GateWorld. The show currently exists in the form of a one-page treatment of the story and characters. Cooper and executive producer Brad Wright will start writing the pilot after shooting on the two 'Stargate SG-1' movies finishes in June. Meanwhile, new episodes of 'SG-1' and 'Atlantis' start airing April 13 in the U.S., on The SCI FI Channel. "

Submission + - Google Summer of Code Program Overhauled

lisah writes: "Though at first glance Google's Summer of Code (SOC) 2007 looks pretty much the same as last year's event, it turns out much of the program has been overhauled based on feedback from past participants. The biggest change is the amount of lead time given to applicants and mentoring organizations in the hopes of increasing the applicant pool and allowing everyone to be better organized once the program gets officially underway on May 28. SOC organizers say they are also aware that slow payment to last year's participants has been a bone of contention and they are taking steps to 'make sure that the problem is diminished or will not happen again.'""

Journal Journal: Alleged spammer tries to take Spamhaus.org, foiled

Last year, electronic marketing firm e360insight sued the anti-spam blocklist Spamhaus in U.S. District Court over being included on the Spamhaus website as an alleged spammer. Since Spamhaus is a UK company, the jurisdiction of a U.S. Court may be questionable, but Spamhaus found (the hard way) that the court was still willing to enter a default judgment. e360insight then attempted to take Spamhaus.org by using the US Marshall service to try to seize it from its domain registrar, Tucows, but fa

Journal Journal: SIP over TCP - using it in NAT friendly way

I have recently browsed through the latest SIP RFC looking for ways to be more NAT friendly for VoIP.

What I found is not very conclusive: The latest RFC indeed tries to push TCP as default transport for SIP (Yessss signalling links are making a come back) but the use of TCP connection is left to a lot of ambiguities.

Journal Journal: Slashdot UIDs

When will the day come when the lower UIDs will be auctioned off. I signed up for one back in the day and then signed up later after that password and email went the way of the dodo. Lets just gather all the low UIDs that are unused and do some fund raising on eBay.
