I generally agree on unfair registration and yearly fees however EVs tend to be about 1000lbs heavier than similarly classed ICE vehicles. It isn't unreasonable to charge EV owners more to cover increased wear and tear on the roads.
My Leaf is 3300 lbs, the vehicle it replaced (Chevy Cobalt) was 3200 lbs. They are similar size.
Plus, if vehicle weight was the concern, why is the Texas diesel tax per gallon the same as gas? Diesel vehicles tend to be heavier than gas vehicles, right?
My 2015 Nissan Leaf, at 3300 lbs curb weight, is lighter than our Subaru Forester.
Plus, I average about 6,000 mi/year. If it was a ICE with 25 mi/gal I would pay $48 in gas tax.
