Iran was basically where we are plus optional and waning headscarves when we did a coup.

Islamic states have a horrendous record of human rights violations. US citizens have more constitutional human right than many countries other than the UK and Iran isn't even on the list. Islam's treatment of women and homosexuals is so bad that seeing women and homosexuals ignorantly professing their support for Islam is offensive to any person who, like me, has spent time fighting for human rights. The ignorance in their position reduces human rights for all because it erodes the rights of two groups of humans, men and children.

In *Western* countries women already have more rights than men and children so creating gender parity with human rights means granting MORE rights to men and children, for example increasing their bodily autonomy and access to services so it is similar to the rights women have.

To bring it back to the conversation we are having; Corporations should not have human rights at all. Human rights are for humans.

Most sane suggestion here, so MOD PARENT UP, while I add to this. Corporation were never allowed to change their charter when the idea of a corporation was created. If a corporation was set up to build a bridge, it built that bridge and then the corporation was folded.

Along the way the corporation got to extend their charter and call it "Diversification" on top of the limited liability they were granted to perform their charter.

Next, the corporation decided that, well if black people can have human rights, corporations should have them, so that was piggybacked into the legislation totally against the spirit of the intent of the law - to equalize rights for black people.

ALL the issue we have in modern society - including the current AI race to the bottom, environmental issues - come from the way corporations are legally obligated to produce a profit, long past the original idea of what a corporation should be.

If you want to fix the world, fix corporation law, remove their right to human rights and expose them to the liability they are shielded from whilst being able to use it to beat up anyone who resists them.

Corporate law IS the cancer on society and its an easy fix for many of the issues modern society faces.

Yes, exactly. DST came about because there were issues to be solved. We can also talk about traffic issue and the sun being in a different position when they are driving.

I think what we're looking at is the short sighted stupidity of emotional retarded people who's version of thinking is yelling at people to support an idea they are too cognitively lazy to consider for themselves.

Yeah humid here like that too. Often 35C (about 95F) at midnight, those nights play havoc with people's sleep. You just can't sleep and live in AC constantly so as much dark as possible is needed to make up for that just so you can open the windows and get some fresh air at night.

With the stupidity of loosing DST the tradies would start in the morning when it is finally cool enough to get some decent sleep for a few hours. I can think of other reasons to keep DST however sleep would be the main one. With DST it's some help in getting sleep and that hour makes the difference between functional and fatigued, between getting home or having a car accident.

Unless, of course these morons are proposing to add a legally mandated afternoon siesta to their proposal.

Management paid little attention to dates in the 20th century does anyone seriously think they will pay attention to a leap hour as an edge case for time? I'm gonna have to get more popcorn. Obviously the issue is because software is still made as cheaply as possible and even with the subject of time right in their face they still don't code to handle it. So let's abolish accuracy and assume the earth is always the same size - slaps forehead.

Personally I'd start a project to build a booster large enough to correct the Earth's orbit of the sun to a nice round 256 days

Fuck it - let's go epoch time all around the world no more DST, no stupid 720 degree clock or timezones. While we're at it - let's get rid of days of the week, month and years as well. It's 1791452533 right now, I'll see you at 1791452533.

I'd say another drawback to getting rid DST is that any tradesman working outside would have to start banging hammers an hour earlier to miss the heat of the day waking people up whilst construction projects miss an hour per day, per person, per project because exhaustion leads to fatal work accidents.

Then there is the additional energy consumption required for lighting in the evening that would have been provided by the sun for free.

Unless of course NASA wants to ask Russia to take American astronauts to ISS.

Then again the only realistically viable lunar lander is Alpaca which by-passes many of the issue both Blue Origin and SpaceX has with their landers. So, IMO, I think there are some compelling arguments to keeping Falcon if America wants to beat China back to the moon who, in reality, are starting to look like they will get back there first.

Of course SLS Block 1B could do the entire thing in single launch IF NASA could afford the tower upgrades.
